Dr. Forbes Buffalo, NY 2/12 Weeks! First post!

Recommended Posts

Hi Buffalo bansters...I have a questions for someone who has already been banded. As I was driving around today (still on my SB Diet) I must have passed a sign for a church or community festival at every corner. What can we eat at those fairs? Also, do support people come to the support group meetings or are those just for the banders? Thanks.

I eat hot dogs without the roll, sausage, basically, no carbs.

I just came from the support meeting. It was post band, pre band and support people. Maybe 15 people or so.

Thanks Judy, I look forward to attending my first support meeting at Buffalo General next month. Thanks for the info on the fairs. Banders can't eat bread huh. Is that a forever thing?

For the beginning it is just because it is a source of carbs that you can not eat bread. Post band I think you can eat some, but at the support meeting last night people basicaly told me that Bagels and soft white bread is out, I guess it gets stuck. By the way, whole grain (not whole wheat) breads can be eaten on phase II SB.

I was thinking about the fair and one thing I ate recently was fried vegetables, now I know it was not the best, but the breading was lite and it was better than pizza probably. I also read in SB that if you want candy, do chocolate covered strawberries, so you do not get much chocolate--I did that recently at a fair, and try to make it dark chocolate.< /p>

Take care.

Support meeting was good, it only meets once a month though, 3rd Wednesday of the month. Nikki, Loraine, Christa and I went.

I am going for a dexamethasone supression test tomorrow. That is what they have you do when your urinary cortisol is high. It is to rule out a possibility of a tumor. I am pretty sure it is not a tumor making me fat, I am pretty sure I ate all of that food. Will let you know the results next week when they come in.

I will see you Saturday, Nicki and Loraine said they will be there also.

Linda, I also have eaten just the cheese off a slice of pizza. Hope this helps.

You mean high on the urine, and then they came back low on the dexamethasone supression test?

so they did not make you go to an endocrinologist then?

Are you coming tomorrow to the Park? It should be a good day.

Funny thing, he is the guy I was seeing who put me on the Aldactone, which raises cortisol. I forgot about him, he was very nice. I will keep that in mind.

How was your garage sale, how is Donna? Good luck on your weigh in Tuesday, you look good, I think you will do well.

My flight to NYC was canceled, all flights to NYC out of Buffalo were canceled, I have to be on a flight at 6 am, which means waking up at 3!! Maybe I do not always LOVE my job! I am a little annoyed because I wasted a whole day.

Thanks for being so supportive during my "wait". I am going to pray to God for patience, but I hope he hurries!

Take care.

Val, I am thinking of changing endocrinologist to someone who is familar with Lapband patients. Do you recommend Dr. Lippes? Where is he located? I am going to ask tommorrow at my 3 hour blitz. YEAH FINALLY!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
