Becky, congrats on the new coat! Are you able to eat lettuce with no problem? I haven't tried it as they advised against it in my nutrition class as they said it balls up and gets stuck easy. Can't say I really miss it as I am not a big salad fan, but sometimes when I go to lunch with friends it is so hard to decide what to order that I think of trying a salad as usually an entree is too large and Soup goes right through the band.

Well, I hit 76 today!!! And am in the 220's now!! YAHOO!!

Janet, miss you, look forward to your return, but mostly am thinking of you in your grief.

I eat lettuce in salads all the time and have not had any trouble with it at all. I was also told that lettuce can get stuck but so far I haven't gotten stuck on lettuce. The only time I've been stuck on anything is when I forget to chew, chew, chew.

Gang - First of all THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS... It has really helped - I am blessed to have such good friends.

Now I have only skimmed the posts - but saw that Phyl said something about some of you slacking and am assumming that means bad food choices..

Regardless of your restriction - you guy gotta make good food choice cuz even with proper restriction if you continue bad eating habits your weight isn't going to come off..

Life is still topsy turvy for me right now - things keep popping up which is causing more drama.. I hope to be back to work tomorrow and start getting back in to the routine of my life.. Last night was the 1st night that I have eaten a good meal (my fish rice and spinach) and was able to have a few hrs of quite - the last week has been pple 24/7 and I am exahusted... I haven't been to the gym in a week now - and most likely won't get back into the groove til Monday - but I will...

Just wanted to pop in and say Thank you...

Hugs - Janet

PS Even if I am not here I am on your shoulders watching you... So remember that - I am the little angel on your right shoulder telling you to make those good food choices and not to listen to that little devil on the left shoulder telling you it's ok...

Janet, It is so good to hear from you. I know it is tough right now, but I am praying that God's grace be sufficient for your needs. You have been in our daily prayers and we look forward to hearing advice from you. I start taking care of my grand daughter tomorrow. I know she will keep me busy and I won't have time to feed "head hunger".

Take care!

Glad to see you back, Janet. I hope you can find some 'me' time today before you go back to work tomorrow.

I was one who mentioned struggling, but it was more of an emotional/mental struggle though I did make a few 'not as good' food choices as I have been. But, then again, didn't go hog wild either. I even lost another pound this week.

I am so struggling with everything. I really need to get back to the basics and get myself going again, but just can't seem to do it. I know it will only help me in the end, but have no clue what the heck is wrong with my brain lately.... I am definitely a coward and am afraid to call my doctor for a fill. I totally need one because it's like I don't even have this band around my stomach any more. I am just eating way too much and way too fast of all the wrong foods... I am hungry again an hour after I eat a meal..... Can't stand it any more and am about to just give up totally.

Phyl, do you live by Janet. I know you are close with her but didn't realize you were close enough to attend her brothers funeral. I have been thinking about her alot and sure do miss talking to her. You are doing a good job filling in. See ya all later. Beckyo:biggrin::sad_smile::biggrin::rolleyes2:

HI,

Live near Janet only in the winter! We live in WA state but winter down here in Desert Hot Springs not far from Indio where Janet lives. Good to have her back, isn't it!!

Gail,

Have you heard about the "5 Day Pouch Test"?? You can google it and find out all about it. Basically, you go back to liquids two days, then I think it's soft two days... etc. Can be a good "kick start" if you kind of need a kick in the butt! Helps get you back on track. I did it last summer, not necessarily because I was slipping... I don't really remember why I decided to do it. I think my weight loss was stalled and I wanted to shake things up. It worked nicely!

Hi to all tonight! (Wednesday). I had a good day today. Janet I am glad to hear that everything is going along okay for you. We miss you here, but you take your time and get things situated at home. I am truly sorry about your brothers passing. I have never lost a sibling before but I have both of my parents. Anyway I am having trouble changing my ticker for some reason. For those of you who are struggling, I think Phyl's advice about the 5 day pouch test is a great way to get back on track. Keep your head up and keep trying! I know that this is hard for me alot of days and we are all doing this together so keep trying. Have a good evening.

Hey Becky

You double click on your ticker - takes you to your ticker site - enter password twice - correct your weight - hit the bookmark (i think ) link - closed then save signature.

I am back at work today - and tomorrow night going to see Fergie at a local casino - so I will surely get my drink on as they saying goes...

Janet - Welcome back. I thought of you often.

Phyl - Thanks for the info on the "5 day pouch test". Excellent information. I was looking for some info on how to get re-motivated.

Gail - I'm with you on the struggling. I know it's all me and I need to make some better choices. I think I have the exercise part on track, it's the food part. Looking forward to another fill, but I do still need to eat right.

Well, it's October and the snow has already started falling! It came way too soon!!

It doesn't snow in Houston. I miss snow. Where are you and is there snow there all winter? This winter, we'd like to take a winter vacation so the kids can play in the snow.

Welcome back, Janet. We missed you - lots!

I sent this note this morning, typed a whole message and then it disappeared into cyberspace. I have to remember to keep saving my messages if they're long.

Life has been a mixture of ups and downs, but surprisingly my food is OK. Spent the last two days running from doctor to doctor, then to the hospital and then back to different doctors. It looks like my 93 year old father had a TIA, a temporary ischemic attack, I think is what they call it, a type of mini-stroke. His symptoms have abated and except for a bit of slowness in his reaction time, he's back to where he was before the incident. I can't believe how this has thrown me. I was so frightened, I can't even begin to explain it. My parents have lived with us for two years and although I knew that problems would lie ahead, I was totally unprepared emotionally.

At first I wanted to binge and then ironically, food became irrelevant. I am at my lowest weight today, 51 pounds, instead of the 50 on my ticker. A slow loss, but my loss, none the less.

Hope everyone is doing well. I'll write again later.

Love,

Ellen

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
