I love scallops all the time and have been fantasizing about having some post-op. They seem like the perfect texture! Day 5 liquid pre-op diet ?
ps. When I go out to eat, my family always knows I will order scallops if they are on the menu?

When my sleeve was new, I lived on scallops. So soft and easy to digest. My nutritionist was not happy. She kept repeating, " But there's nothing in them!" No, there's no Omega -3s like in fish, but there is no fat and there's a lot of protein packed into the deliciousness. I kept eating them and did just fine. Enjoy! Oh, and I had good luck eating shrimp, too. Just don't overcook them.

PS: I feel a little guilty speaking about food when I know some of you are struggling with fluids BUT I am also your future so I want to give you hope. Last night I ordered out for the first time since pre-op and I ordered a piece of plain mahi mahi with lemon. It was lousy. Dry and fishy tasting so after one bite I tossed it. Then I spied by daughter's scallops. She did not want to finih them. I took two and weighed them. 2 oz. I rinsed them off as they were coated in butter. Then I ate them tiny bite by tiny bite. THEY WERE SO DELICIOUS. And they went down like s DREAM! I felt the same as I did after having an egg the first time... but even BETTER. REAL food. I kept waiting for a price to pay. No price. So I saved the other two for lunch today. Put them in the toaster oven under broil for 3 minutes. JUST AS DELISH. And I can make scallops. So this feels GREAT!! Went down so easily much better than the ground chicken. So... GET YA SOME SCALLOPS when you're trying meat proteins. The End.

Update after my one-week post-op appointment yesterday.
The nurse practitioner I saw was awesome. She listened to all my concerns and then said that everything I'm feeling is TOTALLY NORMAL. No, I can't add soft foods until after the two weeks is up, however, adding more protein (so trying to drink another protein shake) will help a lot. The good news is, my pain is really manageable now, barely even an issue, and that's much better than a lot of folks experience at 1 week, especially with a nasty hernia repair thrown in AND having to inject myself in the abdomen with blood thinner twice a day! She described my current symptoms as "a general malaise" and I laughingly had to agree. I'm going to start taking my vitamins today, which she said would also help me feel better. And bonus! Even though I'm still liquid only, I can take my calcium chews which are basically like candy so HURRAY.
As far as feeling exhausted, until it improves she encouraged me to just take as much time and lay down to rest whenever I need to. There's no requirement for activity level, just try to do as much as I can but don't push myself. Yes, 300-400 calories is normal at this stage and so is the resulting fatigue.
Last night I had my husband get a chicken soup from Chick-fil-a and strain all the solids out. Then I ate just the broth. It was the most amazing thing I had ever tasted. ?

kidder136 got a reaction from MaybeMeow in MAY-JUNE-JULY 2020 BYPASSERS UNITE!! Veterans Welcome too!Had my bypass on 6/09 also. I am on purées now. Never though tuna would taste so good. Next is egg salad puréed. Hope everyone is having a great day. -
kidder136 reacted to Lici in JUNE 2020 BYPASSERSHi all. I had my surgery on the 9th. I’ve been doing pretty good, no nausea and no issues with getting in my liquids. I only spent one night in the hospital which was nice since my hubby couldn’t spend the night due to current restrictions. Like others posted, I miss food. Especially salads. I went back to work yesterday since I was feeling so good but it ended up wearing me out. Can’t wait to be cleared for other food options bc I’m sick of broth and jello. I don’t love protein shakes so I add the protein to my water and broth. Down over 11 lbs from surgery day weight so I’m happy with those results so far.

kidder136 reacted to mrsgrijalva1124 in JUNE 2020 BYPASSERSHad removal of lapband and bypass surgery on the 11th. I seem to be doing ok for the most part.
I’m on my 4 day of clear liquids and can move to full liquids on Thursday. I just ordered some Protein water to help with the lack of protein during the clear liquid stage so we shall see how that goes. -
kidder136 reacted to misstameka in JUNE 2020 BYPASSERSI had gastric bypass surgery on Wednesday, June 10th. The gas pain was horrible right after the surgery. I could barely get enough liquid down for them to discharge me. The day after was better and now 4 days post, I am good. I can only get down 60 gms of protein and 48oz of water. I have no pain at all. Wishing you all luck on your upcoming surgeries! -
kidder136 reacted to HubbaHubba in JUNE 2020 BYPASSERSGot mine scheduled for June 26! Today is my first day of the liquid diet. Managing ok so far.

kidder136 reacted to mrsjriley77 in JUNE 2020 BYPASSERSMine was Tuesday the 9th I can also get all my protein and liquid in with no problem I do have some gas pain but it’s getting better everyday -
kidder136 reacted to BoredFatGirl in JUNE 2020 BYPASSERSI had surgery on Monday too! *highfive*
I also feel like I am able to drink so much more than others.. I was so worried it would be a tough task to get down my 60g of protein but I have been able to get it down with no problem. I am supposed to be taking in 100ml per half hour, but earlier I think I took in 300ml just by miscalculating the time and what I had already taken in. I also caught myself after taking a big swig of water (I use tiny cups currently to help with that), but no harm has seemed to come from any of it.

kidder136 reacted to ProjectPaige in JUNE 2020 BYPASSERSI had surgery on Monday as well. I’m doing okay on fluids. I had horrible gas and stomach spasms. I’m glad you’re doing well. Keep up the good work :) -
kidder136 reacted to California Guy in JUNE 2020 BYPASSERSCongratulations on getting that done! We all worry about worst case scenarios. Relax and focus on recovery. I also had no trouble with fluids after my sleeve or bypass revision. No nausea or gas pain either. I did have a reduced appetite so I didn't have a lot of desire to drink a lot of liquids.

kidder136 reacted to cowgirlcullen in JUNE 2020 BYPASSERSHey ya'll! I searched, and there doesn't seem to be a topic for the June bypassers yet, so I guess I'll start one. I had surgery on Monday the 8th, so 2 days ago. My recovery has been a lot easier than I expected, but I'm really concerned that I'm drinking/swallowing normally and can get down all the fluids I want, which has been a lot since my mouth has been so dry.
I haven't had any nausea or vomiting or even any gas pain that I can tell. I do have some discomfort, but am not sure that is gas pain. Anyway, I am just really worried that I my surgeon didn't make my pouch right or something since the fluids are just flowing freely.
How are you doing post-op so far? If you haven't had surgery yet this month, then stay tuned because you will likely find these posts helpful once the time comes.

kidder136 got a reaction from ProudGrammy in 2008 bandstersApril 2006 for me. Haven’t been in contact with my surgeon in a few years, need to make an appointment as I have stalled and gaining. I am having issues a lot lately with food getting stuck and vomiting. Everything seems to get stuck and I am also having discomfort in my esophagus. I may need to have a removal.
