Depressed about not wearing plus sizes

Recommended Posts

One more doctors note to turn in before they submit to my insurance and give me a date. I can not wait! Seems so far away, but it isn't.

I have a closet full of clothes that I liked before I got too big for them-but by the time I get back to that size the styles will have changed. I guess I should empty the closet and haul everything off to Goodwill.

Crazy isn't it!

I find there is a big difference between tall and long sizes. The talls come up to high on me. I'm 5'9, if I'm not tall who is?? LOLOLOL

Long sizes in Lee are my favorite or NY & Co. (the old Lerner). Can't wait to fit in them again AAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I can understand the sadness in a way. For some of us, we have been overweight for 10, 20, 30 or more years. It is sometimes hard for us to let go of something that has been a part of our lives for so long. For me, I will probably cry when I give away, sell, or throw away my "fat" clothes. I will remember things like "Oh, I wore that when I graduated college" or " I was wearing that when my son played his best game". But I am a sentimental freak. :) And to the person that said they go to Lane Bryant even though they can't wear the clothes....I LOVE IT!! But the MAIN thing I would like to do when I get down close to my goal is go into the famous lingerie store-victoria secret- walk up to this skinny saleslady that told me "you must be looking for another store" when I went in there looking for a present for a friend- and say "What do you think now- Beee-utch". LOL

I was just thinking about posting this topic today! I was looking at my Sillouttes catalog an loving some of the new dresses- and realizing the XL would just fall off. I can't find that dress (or a few others) in another small person catalog.

At Walmart the other day- I couldn't believe all the things in the plus size I liked and they would never fit and that there was nothing in the 12-14 range I wanted. (thank the lord my butt is still a 16/18 - i think?)

I've been thinking about this thread. I wonder if it is a case of letting go of something we know and feel comfortable with? I know how hard it is to travel uncharted waters, and that is exactly what many of us are facing when we find ourselves out of women's sizes. (Although I still can't quite picture that fully :))

It is really hard to move outside our comfort zone. I believe that is one reason my husband won't let himself get below 400... too scary

I started a thread on a similar subject, about wanting to hoad my big clothes on the support forum. Let me find it and bump it.

Was it stressful to go shopping for "big" clothes right before your band date? With the change of season, I need some fresh spring clothes to wear to work, but I wanted my last big clothes to be exactly that-my LAST big clothes. Shopping isn't much fun these days. I know, this too shall pass.

I just can't wait to get out of plus, for some reason they think people are short that shop in that section. Just cuz I am overweight doesn't mean I am short!! I'm getting closer, but the "regular" clothes scares me!! A little to hip???? I still need to cover myself-all of it! But I also know about the size thing so far from size 22 to some 18. Still can't get into my favorite capri's that I once wore that are 18, but can get into my work pants and some jeans. why can't it all be sized the same?

I really tried hard not to go clothes shopping but the thing is, you need to have something to wear to work! :) So I tried to stick to clearance racks as far as tops, and I made my jeans last that I had. I don't wear dresses (at least I don't now but WILL when I get closer to goal). I did buy stretchy elastic waist pants for post op time (something I normally wouldn't wear just because I don't have the right waist line). Goodwill is another place you can try.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
