I would like to be banded in September 2008. I am currently attending seminars about Lap Band to find the best fit for me. I have been thinking about get the Lap band for almost 5 yrs now.

If anyone has any similarities and are going to be banded around the same time, drop me a line.

I've just started gathering as much information as possible for me to get banded. I am going to attend my first seminar later this month. I'm hoping to get it done in July. Later this month I'm going to ask my doctor to put in a referral for me. He already asked me about gastric bypass but I know that is not for me. Let me know how everything goes and I'll do the same for you.

I am 26 years old and live in New York. My insurance required 6 months of a supervised diet which I started on Feb 1st....(which means I will be done August 1st!!! YAY!!! I can't wait to get started!) I am doing a sleep study next week (well, the first round anyway), the Psych eval in a few weeks, and the nutritionist appointment in July so that when August 1st hits I can be ready to submit my paperwork and schedule a surgery date. So, if all goes well, I hope to be banded sometime in September at NYU Medical Center. I am 5'2'' and weigh 250ish pounds. Good luck in your journey and keep in touch!

Hi ladies!

I'm 32 and was banded at NYU when I was 28. I had a wonderful, WONDERFUL band buddy who worked at NYU named Shelley help me through the whole process. There is nothing more valuable than your support network.

I am more than happy to help in any way. I've not been a "model" band citizen, but I learned a lot and had success...and would be glad to be a cheerleader for any of you! Email or PM me if you have any questions :cursing:

This is totally the best damn thing you will EVER do for yourself :cryin: I never realized that just by losing weight I would rediscover me. I thought I always knew me, but I never even scratched the surface.

It really does improve every area of your life.

I can't wait! I'm so excited about my surgery date - September 4th. I have been going to all of my appointments and finding out as much as I can about the surgery. I only have a couple more appointments left until my new life begins. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the three week long pre-op liquid diet. I'll manage though. I can't wait to be thin and healthy! :biggrin2:

I'm waiting to have surgery in September because my last class is over on August 29th--getting my Masters--and so I wanted to concentrate on this. It's my present to myself.

I will be getting the lap-band surgery on September 3. I'm a little scared of the surgery, but I know the outcome will be wonderful. I can't wait to get the surgery over with and start the Journey.

Not only are we having the surgery the same day we are using the same doctor. How cool is that.

We definitely should compare notes and be band buddys.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
