Do you have to have support?

Recommended Posts

Hi all-

I've read the posts regarding support from friends and family members when you have your surgery. I see the need to have this support after you get home, but I'm one of these people that when I'm sick or having surgery I just want people to leave me the heck alone! Are you required to have a support person at the hospital if you don't want one?

Thanks for any input....

Hi JRT Mom, I am the same as you mostly I just want to be left alone with a stack of books and DVD's! I have decided to have my friends and family at the hospital just because its so far and I know I will be kicking myself if I don't.

But after I am released I plan to go back to my place where I live alone and just have them pop in to check on me once a day.

Good luck

Ki XX

I am a loner too, I prefer to be by myself (I don't see that changing when I lose the weight either, I just don't like people en mass) BUT since I have young kids for the first couple of Days my Mom will be here with me, then I have a friend who has the non adjustable band picking up and dropping off my kids from school (until her TT that is) but by then I should be right as rain (almost anyways) so I can drive them to and from school.

my doctor will NOT do the surgery unless someone is there...plus with all the medication, i don't know if it would be a good idea to try and drive yourself home...

I am going to Mexico for my surgery, and doing it alone...that was one of my concerns, but I posted a thread here about it, and received many replies that reassured me I would be fine. Btw...I am the same way...I don't want anyone to see me in discomfort or pain, I would rather do it alone.

You need someone to drive you home. They don't have to be there for the entire surgery though. Heck, you could use a taxi service if you really wanted to. But having a friend or family member drive you home may be cheaper.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
