WWYD: re: infection/redness in navel

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Thus far, I have never had a skin infection...but I just noticed my belly button (which after losing 102 and having had VERY large twins prior is kind of "hooded"), is red and rather stinky...Obviously some sort of infection.

So, do I just put a lotrimin type of cream on it, or do I call the dr. and get it on record that it's infected? You know, in case it helps get my Tummy Tuck down the line...

WWYD?

Thanks,

Rainer

Hi Rainier, I'm experiencing something similar at this time. I haven't lost anything near what you have. I had this once before many years ago and went to a dermatologist. He said that it was a form of yeast infection. I can't remember what he said to use or whether he gave me anything for it. For awhile i got it often and found that if I used Aloe Vera It would clear it up quickly. I also made sure I kept clean cotton fabric over it and not anything else. The cotton allows it to get air. Synthetic fibers kept the area moist. I hope this helps a little.

Good luck with your upcoming tummy tuck.:coolgleamA: C an't wait till I get to that point.

hi, I keep getting the same thing! It is a yeast infection and the dr. gave me nystatin cream. It takes like a week to clear up. The positive thing is that it helped me qualify for a Tummy Tuck with insurance!

I have had that problem in my groin area. I use Monostat or equivalent type cream. I clears it up quickly.

I can avoid problems by using gel deodorant on all the "creases".

It is good to know about the TT issue. It may be worth putting up with the irritation and itch for a while.

Hugs

Rita

Rainer,

I would definitely call the doctor's office so they have it on record that you called about it and I would also take a photo, date it, and keep it for later when you are trying to get approved.

Hi Rainer:

Definitely call your doctor. I would call your PCP though and get in to see him/her so that it makes it onto your chart. Ask for a copy of your chart to take with you, or call them in a week to ask for a copy to make sure that it's noted.

With the warmer weather coming this may happen more frequently.

I can't wait to get a rash - my insurance says that you either have to have rash problems or have issues walking. I don't have issues walking. However, I still have 40 pounds till goal so I imagine that as I lose more fat from my middle the apron will start to thin out and hang more - yuck!

Good luck with your infection.

Take care.

Sue

Like everyone said hun, DOCUMENT!! Go see your doctor, get a prescription for the rash/infection and make SURE its documented!!

The more documentation you have that the excess skin is adversely affecting you the more likely you will get insurance to cover plastics!!

Nystatin powder is much better than the cream. Last thing we want/need is more wetness with a yeast infection (blahh!) Wow, I was hoping those would go away with weight loss not stick around

Hello,

I went to the dr. got cream and he wrote it in my folder...

so..I felt ridiculous as I would have never gone to the dr. for this if it weren't for the hope of one day having part of my plastics paid for.

Thanks for the advice, it was much appreciated.

Rain

Since losing weight my bellybutton has become a bottomless hole. From the outside it looks like a ^. I can stick an entire pencil into the bellybutton hole and never feel it reach skin. Creepy, eh? Well, as my belly button has collapsed, I've been getting random, temporary infections. Most likely because I can't do much to clean it out well. Before I could just soap/water it, but now, it's like trying to clean a well. In fact, sticking a pencil in there wasn't something I did for fun, it had swab and peroxide on the end, and I was trying to clean it out, and couldn't find a qtip long enough.

ANYWAY, I've never gone to the doctor for it. It's not major, but is a sort of major self conscious thing for me. I mean, it stinks, right? And the first thing my doctor's going to do is stick her nose down there. I know, get over it -- I'm trying.

ANYWAY again, I've been treating it with a wash and cloating of either triple antibioatic like Neosporin, or Hydrocortizone. Either seem to work equally well, and it never seems to last longer than a day or two.

 Yee, that gives me the heeby-geebies. I have a weird belly button thing where touching my belly button weirds me out. It makes me want to either pee or puke lol.

I have not had surgery or major weight loss but because of my weight gain I have had a major problem with yeast rashes and the "stinkys".

I use Mitchem gel deodorant anywhere I had a problem. It protects the skin from moisture and takes care of the stinkys.

WOW I never thought I'd hear that from another person, but my DH is the same, totally freaks out if you tocuh his belly button and says he wants to puke also.... :cool2: I guess I will stop teasing him from now on.

I use Dove deodorant under my pannus, have for years, but I don't think I'll be putting it in my belly button anytime soon. :cool2:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
