Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Our kids pay attention WAY more than we think...

Recommended Posts

My "adult" son decided to pal around with me on Saturday. We went to cut his hair, buy dog food, go to the mall and do some grocery shopping. While driving to the mall, the sweet thing said, "Mom, your arms are looking a lot slimmer. You're doing great. You're starting to look different." Bless his little pea pickin heart!!! At the grocery store I saw a pair of beaded flip flops that were so cute. He tells me, "Aw mom, go ahead and get them. Your ankles aren't puffy anymore and you can see your shins!" I wanted to just hug him. Then at the grocery store I was wandering around in circles looking for soy milk. When I told him what I wanted he told me "no." I was dumbfounded. Why? His response? "Mom, you're getting healthy and beautiful. Real milk has Calcium. You need calcium for your bones. With all the exercise you do you need your bones to be strong. Milk also helps you lose weight. I'm not conviced that soy milk is any better for you. Matter of fact, I heard that it's over rated. Let's go get the skim milk."

There you have it folks!! This coming from a young man who was not happy about my being banded. WOO HOO!!! Life is good. :biggrin2:

As the mom of two grown sons, I so appreciate your story. Besides them being proud of us and interested in our well being, isn't it great that they know a little something about a healthy diet?

Congrats on your success with the band!

Isnt that a lovely thing to say to your mum?

My 10 year old son is such a fashion victim. Honestly, you'd die if you saw him, he's right into the skinny leg jeans, he's got this hot pink hoodie he wears, all the bright fluoro colours, he's got blonde tips in his hair and wears it all sticking out in every direction, he's the consummate metrosexual. Sprays himself stupid with aftershave every morning, complains about the decor of the house, has girlfriends at school left right and centre, and is Mr Popularity.

He told me it really helps to have a hot mum! All the girls tell him, your mum's so pretty, lol. This isnt the wealthiest of areas and people's looks and health status really do reflect that, so many people are fat, out of shape and badly dressed.

So apparently, I'm a real "asset" to Ewan's Quest for popularity (he wants to run for school captain next year).

Aw shucks you guys..... that's so nice of you to say. Yes, he is a good kid. He's 23 but I still think of him as a kid. He's going to University at Texas A&M in Corpus Christi and doing so well. I'm very proud of him. I also have a 20 year old son who's away at college and I don't see him as often. It's funny the relationship that boys have with their Mommas. I just love them both to death. My DH says I spoil them. To bad. It makes me happy. They're the light of my life.

I have an old black and white picture of me that I modeled for back in college on my wall in the living room. Back in my heyday. LOL When their friends see it for the first time they always say WOW who is that? They always respond. That's my mom! Hot huh?

When the youngest was a baby people would ask him how he got so cute. He would say: "Cause my momma's good lookin!" Little angels.... They never seemed to notice my weight gain over the years. It's not until now that they have ever mentioned it. I love that they're proud of my accomplishments. It means a lot coming from them. More than you know....

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
