If You Could Change 1 or 2 things about your Doctor what would it be?

Recommended Posts

If your could change one or two things about your Doctor & his staff what if any would they be? Currently I am thinking of changing my Doctor & I have yet to be banded. He just won't ever return phone calls. Either that or he isn't recieving the messages which is just has bad.

So what would you have wanted to see done differently at your Doctor's business.

I would have the EXACT same surgeon but I think I would feel better in the end if he could have done it in the US. Also, I would have taken my husband for my companion rather than my mom and sister. Hubby has a better bedside manner. And I would pack a lighter suitcase, I didn't need 1/2 the stuff I brought.

Interesting Jenna- That is something for me to think about as well when my time comes.

I am going in next week to discuss my concerns w/my current Doctor without an appointment. I think its crazy he doesn't return calls-Its the second time. At least an e-mail would suffice. I asked about two mnths ago if he would call & he didn't.

I hope he will hear me out on how things have gone down- He may or may not even know what happens in the front office. As a proffesional he needs to know how much lack of communication there is.

I think I'd change the amount of patients he does in a week. I was happy with the way my surgery turned out, but I did feel like a number when I was there, and I really didn't feel like there was anything personal feeling about the whole thing. I could have been a car being fixed, not a person. Still though, my Dr. is VERY skilled and that I wouldn't change a bit.

Also, I would have liked for him to believe in giving more pain meds. That first night in the hospital was very painful, and those mexican drugs didn't do diddly:( Plus I was soooo nauseated and vomited for half of the night.

Location, location, location. Oh, and if I wasn't married he'd be madly in love with me, snort snort... had to get that one in before Penni did. Neener neener.

Hey Christina! Looks like I just missed you.......again. I hope you get some answers at the office this week. Would probably check to make sure he is there. Either is a good choice to talk to. Let me know how it goes. Left you a couple voice messages so hope we can hook up soon!

Take care!

Nancy

I'm a little confused by people saying their surgeons don't return their calls. I can't remember one single time that I called my surgeon, for anything! It wouldn't have occurred to me to do so--they have nurses on staff and I've spoken to them a couple of times.

Or are you talking about the office staff? If that's the case, I think every doctor's office has situations like that. It used to be really bad in my doctors' practice, but it seems to have very much improved as they become able to deal with large numbers of patients.

The only thing I'd change about my doctors' practice is that I wish they had a fluoro machine in their office. (Yeah, right.) I very much like the fills with fluoro, but am not crazy about having to go to the hospital to do it. All that paperwork! :rolleyes

To clarify: The office I am having trouble with has no nurses on staff(that I know of)- But 2 Doctors. My questions are not medical at this point because I have yet to be banded. The girls(staff) up front help run all the calls & appt & insurance things. There is the head gal which I have been dealing with & she is the one giving me different answers that contradict one another from week to week. Her only superior is the Doctor. I have asked to speak with him for 2 mins & he never has gotten back with me.(wks have past) Again I am not sure if the girl ever gave him my messages. Either way I will find out this week - its their last chance or I am going else where.

Wouldn't ya think $15,000.00 could get ya a 2min phone call-:tired

I won't change Dr at all. I have had great success with the Dr and his office. And the after care that I get is unbelievable. Only thing I'd change about the whole process is I would have done it sooner if I was to do it over.

If I could change one thing----- I would appoint a non clinical "coordinator" To help people navigate through the consults and help make appointments. I was very diligent and it still was over whelming. And I wish they checked on how I was doing with the consults. - It getsd lonely running around by yourself. Once I wentto the second appt with the staff, and Surgeon I felt a warmer and better connection.

I guess they are use to people starting the process and no following through. Who Knows. MD's - I liked their education, mannerisms and skill level. It pays to bbe an educated consumer!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
