I was banded on Feb 27, 08. I had mine done by Dr Ortiz in Tijuana. Excellent service and professionalism. I am a nurse and was very cautious of who I chose. Dr Ortiz was featured on Oprah just a few days prior to my surgery and has also published a book on the subject. It has been a slow process (37 pounds) but I'm not sagging and have lost 3 dress sizes. I am no longer on my blood pressure meds and no longer have a difficult time walking up a flight of stairs. It was a great decision! Good luck!

Hey all,

I use Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey. Great experience. The trip was perfect.

I would absolutely recommend him to all my friends and family.

I was banded Aug 13th 2008 and have already lost 22 lbs. and I haven't even had a fill yet.

Hello, I am so glad I found this forum. I am looking into being banded October 27, 2008. I have been in contact with Patti Lissberger of The Bariatric Group in Dallas Texas, can any of you tell me any concerns or great success you had with this group?

aalflyatt,

I also talked with Patti before my surgery when I was deciding which doctor. The only thing about Patti was she kept trying to convince me to do the sleeve instead. I told her I had made up my mind and really researched everything about lap band for several months and that was what I wanted. She said okay and offered me a lower price than Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey. The next time I called Patti back she proceeded to try to convince me to do the sleeve again. Patti said she had a failed lapband and thought the sleeve was better as she had done that herself after lapband.

I told her I wanted to do lapband and she seemed sort of angry, so I paid a little more and went to Monterrey.

Hope you didn't have that experience. When she called back I told her exactly why I was not using them.

Sounds like maybe she learned her lesson.

Good Luck, whoever you use, you WILL NOT regret it.

I went to Dr. Owens for my Sleeve in T.J. I wanted a U.S doctor so I wouldn't have to go back to Mexico for my appointments. I thought the hospital was fantastic and everyone there was so professional. I met Dr Lopez and his staff there who Dr. Owens works with. I would trust him too. It isn't like you think of Mexico and you dont really have to barely get out of your car for those people who are worried about it.

Can anyone give me any information about having it done in mexico? I am looking at different options.

I went to Mexico for my band and then when I wanted a revision my doc is the only one I trusted for a revision since those surgeries are a lot more difficult to do and carry more risk. I'm completely sold on MX!

I did go back to MX for my aftercare with a band because I'm driving distance but with my sleeve I have no aftercare or maintenance so it's a non issue now. But I could have had my aftercare with a band done locally.

I would go back to Mexico tomorrow and do it all again! Go to World Med Assist dot com, call them and say Debbie Clanton referred you - they will help you set everything up or just simply check everything out! I love that they helped me, plus they check on me constantly now. They truly care! My doc was Dr. Corvala in Tijunana and he and his staff made things very easy for me. I highly recommend it all.

Dr. Ramos-Kelly is also a very good option, he has more than 7 years of experience doing bariatric surgery, he has a transplant Fellowship at the Borgess Medical Center in Michigan and a Trauma Fellowship at LAC + USC

The hospital that he uses is Hospital Angeles.

Thanks!!

I can understand feeling lost with the process of finding the right doctor. I just called and scheduled my surgery for Dec 5th with Dr. Kuri in Tijauna. My second choice was with Dr. Acreves. I have heard lots of good things about both doctors and decided on Dr. Kuri because of the hospital setting and the fact that the hotel that you go to after you are released from the hospital is also very clean too. I've been researching and watchning all these thread for a good year now and I feel that I have choose one of the best surgeons. The administrators are very freindly and helpful with any questions that you will have and the cost is $7500. I'm self pay because my husbands company put a disclaimer on there insurance that they will not cover anything weight related even if it is medically necessary. Cigna covers it, just not his employer. My BMI is 40 and besides having achy hips, knees and feet I have no medical reason.

My suggestion is to read all the good and bad of every doctor and talk to those that have had the surgery by those doctors. :cursing:

Well said. The rest are only opinions and you know what they say about opinions!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
