Turler, Leslie and Hippiemama, you are not alone, I am so hungry at times. I have no fill as yet either, set for May 15. I have found through a Gastric-bypass friend at work, a Tasteless Protein that you can add to any drink or food for added protein and it seems to help you feel a little fuller..... I think. It is Any whey Protein Powder. It gives 17 grams of protein per serving. Drinking while eating is also an issue for me, it is so hard to do and I find myself watching the clock for when I can drink. I am glad everyone is doing well for the most part, can't wait to see what we do with "fills".

Hippiemama: Thanks---Must be why I'm crabby and mean and overly-sensitive today

I told the dietician today that I was getting irritable. I think a more appropriate word is bitchy. I'm just darn hungry. I know I'm losing, but it's all been will power so far. I told her if I had so much will power, I wouldn't need the band...I'm running out!!!! She let me increase my caloric intake. I hope that helps. Still gotta stay on mushies though. I'm too afraid to cheat, so I don't even have that! LOL

AAAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!

 What kind of mushies are you eating?

Karly, what date were you banded?

I get my first fill May 9 and it can't get here soon enough. I am also hungry. Being on mushies help and the cauliflower mashed potatoe recipe the doc gave me with low low carbs is great filler and easy to digest.

Is anyone gaining weight back? I lost 13lbs the first week and a half however, since I started the soft foods I think I have gained a few pounds back. I'm trying to avoid the scales so I won't get discouraged. I'm wondering if this is normal?

Ummmmm....let me see, what kind of mushies....

Cottage cheese, refried Beans, Protein shakes, yogurt, ricotta cheese, tuna salad, canned chicken, eggs. It's all Protein laden stuff. It's just that I can only have 2 oz. at a time. I am slowly creeping up to 3 oz. and the dietician said I could have 4 oz. now along with the increase in calories.

I am really hoping this will make a difference. I know I'll survive. I know I'll get through this. I guess I just need to vent. And not to mention, it's good to know that I'm not alone. Don't get me wrong, it's like Misery Loves Company, but in a way it is! LOL

I had the best dinner for my first time on mushies!! Went to Red Lobster & had clam chowder, applesauce & lobster sauce topped mashed potatoes!! I could only eat about 3 bites of each & I am sooooooo stuffed!! Brought home leftovers for tomorrows lunch & dinner though!! OMG IT WAS SOOOOOO YUMMY!!!!!!!

It is totally normal. My doc warned me today when he told me to start mushy/pureed. He told me to expect to gain some back & that I may not start lose again till after several fills when I finally get restriction. Dont freak, its a time for healing not losing. Just watch your calories & carbs & u will be fine.

I had my surgery yesterday (4/28) and I guess I am doing well so far. I do have some soreness around the port and some neck pain from laying on that hard or table but other than that I am doing ok. I do notice some gurgling in my throat but as I am still on Clear Liquids I am just taking that as a time to slow down a bit.

Tomorrow I get to start mushy foods. I bought some bananas, cottage cheese and yogurt today.

I dont think I feel the band at all but like I said it is sore around the port. I am itchy today too but I think that is a post anesthesia thing. Hope everyone is doing well.:blushing:

my stomach is constantly making gurgling noises, i had read about it somewhere that it always will, but that's not a huge deal to me, it's funny! haha.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one with the gurgling stomach. My husband was laying on my lap one night and started laughing when he heard my stomach gurgle. Does that mean I'm not enough small meals?:huh2:

hey everyone I had my surgery yesterday, just got home about an hour ago. my whole stomach area is so sore and i'm tired from not getting enough sleep. I was so hungry last night and they wouldn't give me anything but ice chips, then they gave me luke warm broth before I left. Not very good at all. So I just wanted to check in. I have to say all in all it wasn't so bad but I am in pain, now that I'm home and not hooked up to the pain meds. oh well I'll get through this.

Hello all

8 hours post surgery and I am sitting up in a recliner in the hospital writing this update. I feel ok, But expect to feel like crap tomorrow and the next day. They are keeping me overnight and I will be released tomorrow, but they have already started me back on liquids and clear Soups. What a crazy journey this has been thus far, and I am only at the beginning! When my Dr. asked me how I feel about the surgery, I told him I feel like someone has given me the winning lottery ticket, because the ticket is not the prize, its what you do with it that determines it's value. If you tear it up, it's meaningless. I am going to make this ticket work for me!...And I hope you all do likewise. I would like to thank all of you for your support to each other and to me. It's nice to have a caring place like this to come to when you are freaking out at 3am! Like many of you, I have a wonderful support system helping me thru this but, support from people who EXACTLY what your going thru is a Godsend!

Thanks and God Bles!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
