I cannot do this on my own anymore! I am admiting that I have been far from perfect in following the rules to have a successful lap band experience...that is why I am in the shape I am in right now. I was banded in 10/05 and am the same weight today and in horrible health. I have spent more time with my head puking in toilets and garbage cans than I care to say! It strated with my first fill..I only had 2 and never stopped!! My Dr stopped accepting Medicare so I just stopped seeing one...stupied of me I know! I think I have been swollen this entire time becuse I have never been able to eat anything other than mushies without getting sick....and I ate too much of high calore low nutrient choices! I never gave up diet soda,, I am truly addicted. There are soo many poor choices that IIIIIIIIII made! Today I sit here just having had an upper GI done and am soo swollen I could barley drink the contrast! I cannot eat..I can barley drink ..I am sooo thirsty and I am scared. I wish I never had this done!!! But I did and I must get a grip on it because chances are it is not slipped or errored...I pray. I need help and support starting over! This is all my fault and I have to fix it because it is destoying my life!

Terrilen

first thing you have to do is try to calm down. The good thing is that you have realized that you were on the wrong path and that things were not working for you. that is the first step in order to change anything. Im sorry I dont have any advise on eating while swollen or anything but I just want to let you know people are here rooting for you!!! You can do it!!! Good luck and keep on pushing and things will get better for you!

IT HAPPENED TO ME and I'm doing great now...YOU CAN, TOO!!! I was swollen and my band was so tight, I didn't even realize that I WAS throwing up and not eating right because it became NORMAL. The day I freaked out because I only had about 4 bottles of Zantac and was in Walmart buying more that it hit me! I went back to the doc, got a complete unfill, took Prevacid for 30 days, and let my stomach heal. Then, headed back for 4 fills over a period of 2 months and am now at perfect restriction. It's EASY to eat right now, I don't throw up, and it's a whole new me! I am losing about 4 lbs a week and I have NEVER had that weight loss before. When you are swollen, I think your body shuts down and you do not lose. I didn't lose for almost a year because of the swelling. GET AN UNFILL and heal yourself. You will be fine! I want to hear how it goes. PLEASE LET ME KNOW! You can do it!!! PM me if you have any questions!

Terrilen,

Don't beat yourself up. Accept that you are human, made mistakes, and let them go. They are in the past. Start from today and look to the future. Begin by making wise food choices, and take it one day at a time. We've all been there. You can do this, and all these wonderful people will help you. Let us know how you are doing. We care!

This is also very similiar to what I went through and it is so not worth it. I had a complete unfill for several months because my system was so irritated. I am still slowly working myself back up to restriction.

Some of us have to go very slow with the fills as a very small amount can make a huge difference with us.

You can do this and we are all here to help you through this.

Hi there my fault, I just wanted to ask you if you got an endoscopy? I also have a 4 cc band and I was at 3.75 and I was doing fine and then one day I was able to eat anything and I mean, bread, steak, etc. I went for an upper gi and they said the band looked fine, except it looked empty so I went in for a fill and when they emptied it there was only 1 cc in it so she added 1 cc and wanted me to come in for an endoscopy but I am too much of a baby so I just wanted her to fill it and now I have 3 cc's in there and still no restriction whatsoever. HELP Any advise would be great.

Glad to hear things are going well for you. Good luck.

Terri - whew! I'm glad you got your fill out and are feeling better now. Sneak up on that restriction once you start getting fills again. :)

And don't worry -- you're not the only fall 05-er who is not at goal.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
