Nina's before and after pics (warning may offend)

Hi guys,

I feel much better now, I feel like I have been travelling forever! Finally got back to the kids yesterday.

I thought that I would do a quick breakdown of how it went while I can still remember.

Feb 11th went down for surgery at 8 in the morning didnt come out until 2pm, he said that it was more complex than he thought it would be due to a badly adhered scar from my appendix and other things. I remember that I went into shock in the recovery room (it something that I do a lot when I have had an anaesthetic) so I had to stay there for quite a while, so that they could get my blood pressure under control. They ended up putting special heated blankets on me to stop the shakes, my teeth were chattering like a pneumatic drill!

When they took me up to the room I remember being amazed at how slim my legs were - I have yet to see those legs againLOL - and he told me that they took 7kgs off me. I found out the exact stats at a later consult they were

skin - 26cm deep strip off my tummy (well over my tummy button!) that weighed 1.5kg

Tummy Lipo - 1kg

Legs and ass - just over 4kg

I remember the first day being really painful with a few thoughts of holy cow what have I done????? going through my head ( sorry guys who are yet to go but the first day is a bit of a nightmare)

Finally got to sleep that night and when I woke up the morning after I felt 70% better!!

The first day it felt like my boobs were resting on my knicker line, and I felt like I looked like a block! I suppose that they were really but it felt like I had no midriff at all.

The lipo hurt sooooo much I was black and blue on my legs especially.

I was up and wandering round the day after albeit a bit bent over.

I got the dressings off after 8 days and I have to tell you all I only had 6 external dissolvable stitches on the outside of the scar, he did the rest internally!!!! Yup thats right I had only 6 tiny stitches along the WHOLE incision!!! I had more stitches from the lipo:lol: I have 12 entry points for the lipo and it is still swollen now:biggrin:

My PS has said that it takes about 4 weeks for the swelling to go and that you lose 80% in that time but it doesnt really start going down until you are 2 weeks out, the other 20% can take up to 6 months:eek:

The TT follows roughly the same rules but the swelling takes longer,he reckons that 3 months out you are starting to see the true result but it can change for up to a year:eek:

You get really tired when you least expect it, apparantly it is something to do with the lipo but other than that it has been really easy.

Anyway here are some piccies, I am sorry that I am scantily dressed in them - hence the warning at the top!

I took some pictures today and got very stressed because I am quite swollen at the moment, but then I figured better to show to anyone

reading and thinking of surgery that you do go up and down in the first few weeks! I am cheating in the first one by engaging my abs - the last one is a much truer picture!! Oh and yup I am in my undies again!! Its the best way for me to see what is really happening, cos lord knows I have had plenty of practice at sneaky dressing!LOL

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
