Well,

I have watched this blog since it was put in and I cannot believe the amount of people I know who has had their surgery in 2005 and no one is ever in here. We need to be in here for our future. I constantly read how the bad habits have returned and this is the reason why this was installed. We don't have support group meetings on a daily basis to help us through our tough times. Has everyone succeeded and met their goal? Have we failed and are trying to get back on board with our lives? Is everyone so confident that they don't need to talk anymore about our new lifestyle and we have concoured everything in our past with our weight issues? That would be great.....................

We still need to be here for the people that are just starting out or the ones that are close to goal and are still having issues or any type of questions possible that we are so experienced with.

What do you think? Let's be helpful................

You will notice no fills down below and that is because I finally made up my mind that I wanted to live a longer life than what was expected of me down the road. Maybe I could have done it without the band but I didn't want to take that chance anymore with weight gain and weight loss since that in itself is just as dangerous on your heart as is being obese. I know that my band, my friend, is there to give me support and if I begin to have bad habits I can run to my doctor for help.

Surgery Date : November 10, 2005

Starting Weight : 251

Ending Weight : 142

Maintaining my loss since July 25th, 2006 with no fills

Height/5'7"

Clothing Size/4 - 6 but mostly 6 due to my womenly hips.

Moral support is here for anyone who needs it.

Josephine

Thank You,

I havn't been banded yet, but testomonies like this gives me the courage to know that I could be on the right track..I have been looking for long banders so that I could hear that this (banding) can last longer than the 1-2 year people that I hear from..you've inspired me to see past this and allowed me to feel a little more comfortable with this life changing decision.....

This is good! Glad you started this post maybe we can get it started up again.

I personally have been busy doing things and that's why I've been away. But you are right we need to be here for one another.!

Yea! people return! I was banded in 2005 and sadly am not at my goal. I slipped back into really bad habits after my daughter was born in 2007 and have finally made it to the point of being "ready" for a change. I hope more 05-06 bandsters come back to share, and support.

Christina,

I am still here for moral support or any advise you may need. On July 25th I will have maintained my weight for 3 years and still a bit afraid of going backwards. At least right now I am not a scale-aholic any longer. I tell by my pants if I am needing to watch it.

I was never blessed with children so I only ever had to watch what I put in my mouth for myself and not for anything growing inside of me in which I would have loved ti have experienced that.

Have faith in yourself and should be fine. Looking at your beautiful baby should give you enough reason to become healthy. If you need help email me.

Josephine

Maybe the longer bandsters are out living their lives now?

ha! :-) I will be banned in a year and I came to this thread to see what longtime bandsters have to say. Their absence says, 'Get the band because you will be havign so much fun living your life you will not sit on ur butt in front of you computer ever again!"

SO yes, your absence is a wonderful thing (although I would love to hear more from people who have been banded for more thn 2-3 yrs!!).

I was banded in October 2005 ... still banded and Thanking God every day. I have not reached goal, been going up and down but not nearly where I was before banding. I joined Weight Watchers in January because I needed to get myself back into eating healthy which I have neglected for a long time but that is my fault, not the band. So far I love the points system.

You are so right, people are living their lives and moving on :) If I can answer any questions please ask away.

Good luck !!!!

Hi Josephine,

I am still deciding on weather or not to have the surgery. I am looking for people like you, several years out, to get a better feel for the long term. I am wondering how people gain? Do people stretch their pouches or what? I see a nutritionist March 12th and have had 1 Dr. visit. So, they will be able to answer some of my question. But talking to people who have "real experience" answers is a great help too! I'm wondering how eating a 1/4 cup of food at a dinner out with friends is ever going to be satisfying? Especially after being banded for so long??? Do you ever want more than just a few bites?

I was so excited and now I am a little sad...I was happy to read your post and I will continue to seek out people who are 5 plus years out. Thanks, Josephine! JEN

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
