One day a few months ago my wife brought home a sticky note with a phone number one it. She had heard an add for a LapBand seminar and copied the phone number to register. At first I dismissed it as being foolish. After all I'm responsible for my food intake and my excercise level, aren't I?

Well I never fully dismissed the idea and have been reading and thinking it over. What it boils down to is that I have had a life long weight problem. There have been times when I was able to lose significant weight, only to put it back on +++. Now I have one beautiful 1 year old daughter and an other kid one the way (sex yet to be known :biggrin2:). Maybe it is time I start exploring other options.

I have made an appointment to discuss some of my medical issues and the possibility of Lap Band. I find myself feeling fairly nervous, as though I'm trying to get away with something. You see I don't have diabets, or high blood pressure. I suspect some degree of sleep apnea, but I have yet to be diagnosed. I wake up occasionalllyMy biggest issue is back pain at night. I'm convinced my weight strains my back to the extent that I can not sleep.

Well I just needed to express my situation. If you actually read all this, I thank you! I hope that anyone who reads does well in their journey (maybe wish me luck too?).

Good luck Brad! I've been thinking this over for the past few months also. I initially ended up shying away from the idea, but the more I read here (and have since put on about 15 lbs due to stress of losing my job) the more I'm leaning back towards it. I've just got to get over the fear of surgery first (well actually the fear is of going under general anesthesia not the surgery itself really). But I had my gallbladder out a few years ago under general and a c-section where I had a spinal block and everything turned out fine under both of those.

I finally called and have a consultation on March 12 (hopefully sooner if there is a cancellation).

Well, I'll wish us both luck. Let us know of your progress/decision!

Welcome Brad, I'm 57 and I've been 300+ most of my adult life. I didn't have any health problems at age 30 either, even with my obesity, but now I have type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. I wished there was such a thing as a lapband when I was 27 I probably wouldn't have the health issues I have today. Good luck in your journey. JohnC

I'ts nice to hear from people in the same boat I am. The thought of surgery is a little spooky. Especially after looking at the post op scars pages. I had no idea they poke so many holes in you.

I don't know if I can afford the procedure if my insurance doesn't cover me. I do know that if my health problems aren't severe enough now that they will be a few years from now.

Hi Brad,

It is paradoxical isn't it, that you don't have the problems and therefore may not be eligible for coverage for the surgery to prevent the problems!

Ah well, I too did not have the multiple problems of many others. I went the self-pay route, and haven't regretted it.

Good luck on your journey

Update

Thanks for your support everyone. I got my surgery on March 22nd and so far things have been progressing nicely. My weight loss has been gradual to put it mildly, but losing weight none the less. I hope you are all doing well!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
