Tought Week Help needed

Recommended Posts

Last week my father had a heart attack. I went from Chicago to Knoxville to be with him. He became worse an Passed away on Feb 20th. It has been a very hard time for my family. I have had a bad time with my band. I have not been able to keep any meat down for the last 2 weeks. It seems the only things I can keep down are things that are bad for you (like pie) comfort foods. I have been pbing 10 times a day at least. I am not sure if it is nerves or I just to tight.

hey frank i am so sorry about the loss of your father. my deepest sentiments go to you and your family.

i think you need to go back on liquids immediatly and if you have any problems keeping those down before monday i would call your dr. on monday i would call and talk to him about a slight unfill.

all of the pb'ing is makeing you band tighter and tighter. doing liquids for several days to a week will let the banded area's swelling go down.

((((((hugs))))))))

Frank, I am so very sorry for your loss. I know you are under tremendous stress right now. I hope you will let us support you when we can.

For different reasons, I, too, have been under a lot of stress over the last few weeks and I had the same band problems. I got a slight unfill and things (bandwise) are much better now. I got .5cc taken out. My surgeon told me to come back when I feel ready to get it replaced. Funny, but until I read your post, I never thought that perhaps stress was causing the problems with my band, but now I really think that was it. I had an esophagram and the band is fine. I agree with the admonition to stay on liquids until you can get to the doctor. Also, my friends told me not to worry about weight loss at a time like this and I think that was good advice, which I will pass on to you.

I hope that your family and friends will bring you comfort in your grief.

Nancy

Frank I am so sorry about your loss. Stress can do so much to our bodies. Please go on liquids and stay on them for a few days. If you are still having problems, then please think about getting a slight unfill. Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Frank, sorry to hear of your loss. Make sure to take the time to be kind to yourself. And I agree with the previous posts that liquids for a few days should benefit you. Take care.

Oh, Frank, I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my father suddenly and it's so, so hard. :) It's not surprising you're under stress, and yes, you're discovering what a lot of people have--stress can affect your restriction.

If it's not a hassle I'd agree a small unfill could make all the difference in the world. Constant pbing is no good for you, and the foods that are easy are not healthy. Please take care of yourself (and your band) because you definitely don't want to have any problems further on.

Peace to you and your family.

Frank- I feel your pain. My father died 9 yrs ago & well it just seems like last year. In fact your father's passing was on my Dad's B-day. All I can say is if its an unfill you need than try it but if you can turn to liquids instead & try to ride this out for a bit I encourage you to do so. I gained aprox 40 to 50 pds over two years when I lost my dad. The worst part was I never even noticed until it was too late. So be good to yourself & kind but also set a goal of gaining your control back. Be it what ever time frame you need. Talk with your family or support groups through your church for parent lose as much as possible. I wish I would have done so for myself & did not.

I wish you strenght & time for healing. Good Luck

Frank so sorry about your loss

If you are Pbing 10 times a day, cal lyour doctor. When you PB it is reccomended to go on liquids to let the swelling go down and if you have not this could be why you are still Pbing, you need to rest your esophagus, it is a vicious cycle..so rest and do liquids for a day or two to see if the Pbing is from all of the swelling..Pbing that often can reslut in slippage..

I did liquids and I am doing better. I have only PBed 1 or 2 times in the last few days. You all are great support.

my heart goes out to you Frank - thinking of you and your family

Glad the liquids helped - maybe you should still think about a refill - losing weight shouldn't be a priority right now....take care of yourself

Frank, I lost my dad too, so I do know your heartache. The old saying time heals is true, but it takes a long time. I lost my dad almost five years ago and I miss him as much today as I did the day he left. You're in my thoughts.

Frank: I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my father about 10 years ago to colon cancer. We were all devastated and shocked they found it. He went in for a simple appendectomy and they found the cancer. I feel he knew all along something was wrong but just ignored it. From the time he was diagnosed to the time he past it was 7 months. He lived long enough to see his only grandson born and to spend about a good quality month with him before he past.

It is never easy to lose someone. Time does heal but it still stings a little when I think of him.

Prayers are with you at this time.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
