I haven’t cheated yet!!

It’s Thursday and I think yesterday was the hardest so far. Today I don’t feel hungry just have that pit in my stomach and not much energy. I started on Monday and I have dropped weight every day. My Dr gave me no options for any other food other than opti-fast 5 times a day and clear fluids. (Sugar free Jell-O, fat free & calorie free broth once a day) and all the fluids I can drink. June 2 can’t get here fast enough. I have made my-self busy so I don’t think about food much and my wife thinks I’m a freak. I mowed the lawn again last night only after I mowed it on Monday. I just lowered the mower deck and just cut it shorter. (Kept me busy for 3 hrs) I think I will start painting the house room by room tonight. We (wife & two boys) are going out of town for the weekend fishing and I know that’s going to be a real test.

Well done Jbrod. You have a real handle on your pre op. You are losing weight not only from eating less but from all the exercise you are doing. Congratualtions and keep on fighting the good fight. When you get the band, I expect to see you in the onederland very shortly.

Hi, This is my first post. I have my surgery next Tuesday @ 1:30 p.m. and will spend the night in the Tucson hospital, that is, IF I can get my sodium levels up. At my pre-op, I was told to go home and eat pretzels, drink GadorAid or the like and NO Water as it will flush sodium out. I go back to the Lab on Saturday for another blood draw. Wish me luck.

Hi,

The bariatric program that I attend doesn't require a pre-op liquid phase. The patient has to lose 15% of his/her excess body weight, but how you do it is up to the individual. They do give some patients medication to help lose the weight - only if not contraindicated medically.

They will not do surgery until you have lost the weight, however. The reason is a fatty liver. In the pre-op classes they explain even a few pounds make a big difference in the amount of fat around the liver.

The requirement was frustrating at times - but all in all I think it was a good idea. It helps you learn how to eat regular foods after the surgery.

The program I am attending is at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY.

That's where I'm going thru... But now it's 5%. I have 13 pounds to loose. I'm almost there.

I didn't cheat on my 10 day all liquid diet. My doc said my liver was big (not fatty though I don't think) and because of it they had to place the port a little to the left and below where it would have been. Honestly makes me feel a little ashamed for some reason.

I kept telling myself that I can eventually eat all my fav foods though. This is all just temporary. We're all going to become way more healthy and then we can introduce our favs back in.

I am new here. I would like to know how to know which type of surgery to have. I know it will depend on insurance too, but I am just wondering.

Being post-op now I can answer this question. No I did not cheat on the pre-op diet. I made sure to follow it as closely as possible and it paid off!!! I lost 23 lbs on the pre-op diet and shrunk my liver giving my surgeon plenty of room to work.

The best advice I can give to anyone pre-op is to follow the diet to the T and get out and walk. It will make a world of difference for you.

I've got 12 days till surgery and am following the diet very closely. Mine is Slim Fast twice a day and a Protein with veggies for dinner. Some veggies or a low fat yogurt during the day also

I bought some very low fat wheat crackers (something to bite into) and some low fat ranch dressing--do dip a small amount of my protein of choice into and I had two crackers today.

Not hungry but I'm sure as hell not full or even satiated at all.

I'm really looking forward to the surgery, this is just another step I have to walk I suppose :tongue2:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
