Shrinkin' Violets- Part 2 Read Here

Recommended Posts

It's the "plane" theme because we're flying to Disney in 4 weeks & for the first time in... forever!... I won't have to do the "fat lady dance" wiggling into the seat & covering the fact that I'm not buckled w/a pillow! (Yes, I have done that! I refuse to ask for an extender!!)

Good afternoon, Violets..

Just back from my hospital shift and Ethan is here. I fed him lunch and he's now napping. Time for me to get on line and then hit the bike and glider. After I hit them, I will get on them and do what I'm supposed to do.

Anyhoo. Michelle!!! EXCELLENT! Take it from me, it is so nice not to have to squeeze into a plane seat and hope your gut doesn't spill over into the next seat. Now I can even cross my legs after I slip into the seat. It's such a great feeling!

We are still under a winter storm watch. 8 inches by tomorrow evening. As long as the roads stay good for us to get to the airport on Monday, I'm ok with all the snow. We have a 5 hour drive to the airport and will leave after church Sunday, spend the night at the park and fly Ramada and then take off Monday. Then it's fun in the sun for 6 days. Can't wait!!

Ethan is very quiet so I better get upstairs and get my exercising in!

Will check back later. TTFN...

Well, poor DD & DS have to sit next to me... so I just raise the arm rest and let it all hang out!!

Same here, when I fly with someone I know, I lift up the arms and let it spill.

I have actually had to apologize to people when I was middle aisle, 300+lbs and my stomach would not be contained in the little cube they call a seat. I was so emberassed, and said I'd never fly economy class again.

We're under severe storm watch till 7pm. They are closing all the schools across Alabama, and it's a little dark & windy out, but It's not tornado weather. The weather folks here are going ballistic.. I'm just waitin!

You know what my first thought was..."after school I am going to buy a HUGE candy bar". The last 2 days I have learned a lot about emotional eating, and how easily I am triggered (is that the right word). I WANT chocolate AND LOTS OF CARBS...wtf is wrong w/ me??????????

I'm the same way, when I was really sick last week I just wanted to binge so bad, it makes me 'feel better'. I wasn't able to binge, but I did have chips and Snacks in the house I don't ordinarily keep.

I got an apple dumpling from cracker barrel last night- to go. That thing was monsterous. I ate about 2 bites, and then I was going to save it in the fridge, then decided it'll mean for days I'm eating lots of bad stuff.. so I chucked it. And then I bought some of those chocolate mint things, and went to parents before going home, I ate 1 of them and left the box there so I don't eat those either. I'm doing bad, but I'm rectifying it at least.. doin' the best I can!

Finally starting to storm here, we all keep going out to smoke to see if we'll blow away lol.

Hey Pam! Sorry to hear you're having a tough day. Idea: how about getting some "legal" items that taste like you're cheating & eat those? Like 100 cal cookie packs (the Lorna Doones are great!) or 100 cal cupcakes or skinny cow frozen fudge bars... you get the idea! So even if you eat "several", you're still doing better than if you ate the "real" thing!

Be safe, Laura!

Ooooh... here's another "food" tip... Starbucks now has 90 cal "skinny lattes" in caramel, mocha, cinnamon dolce & another flavor I can't remember right now. The "Tall" (12 oz.) size. Sipping one of those can feel decadant, too!

Oooo I'll have to look for those!

Sorry Pam.. No smokes! YUCK ICKY $$$ CANCER STICKS!

Hi Tracy!!

Michelle, I thought I was the only one that "pretended" to buckle her belt. I would always travel with a shawl, or light blanket, even in the summer. That way I could drape it across my lap. And I would hardly ever travel alone. Always with family or friends, that way I wouldn't feel like I had no one there to "spill" on. LOL, I can't wait to get on a plane and see how much I shrunk! :)

I had leftovers for lunch. One whole chicken breast and half a cup of broccoli rice casserole. Hmm, seems like alot to me but we'll see how I'm doing with this fill.

Pam - I'm sure even smokers on this thread will tell you it's not worth to go back to smoking just to lose a little faster. You're doing the weight loss to get healthy right?

Okay, I've had two Liters of Water so far. Well a little bit less than 2 Liters. I've still got about an inch of Water left in my current water bottle.< /span>

Making stir fry for dinner tonight. Juan is working late so I'll probably go home then go to the gym and then work on dinner.< /span>

I'm glad tomorrow is Friday. Can't wait until the weekend. We're going bowling on Saturday with some friends and I'm excited. Haven't bowled in awhile! Hope I don't need the gutter guards!

OMG I cannot tell you how badly I despise this laptop keyboard!!! Had my post all ready, and overshot the backspace, and it is all gone...PITA!!!!

Anyway....hi girls! I made it! Had about 60 maybe 70 miles of ice---but once I got over the continental divide, dropped below 7000 feet, and headed south, it cleared up and has stayed that way.

Got Dad all checked in at the hospital---now he is free until 5:30 in the morning--surgery is scheduled for 7. I jinxed him! Remember me saying Mom always looks out for him and forgets her own things--well his shaving kit got left behind, so we have some minor shopping to do!! Plus we need dinner, but it is only 4---not time to eat....I keep telling them, we ought to go and avoid rush hour---they are ignoring me...but I am the one driving so I guess it doesn't matter!!!

Going to post this before I hit something else!!

So as I was saying---we cannot break habit, we must wait until supper time---which is sometime after 5!!!

My car charger got stepped on in DH's truck apparently---I grabbed it to bring, and it will not clip into the phone. So...hoping to just grab a charger while replacing Dads toothbrush etc. tonight!

Pamela---stay away from the cigarettes---you will just have to quit again! Your body is so much better off without them---and think of the $$$

When I quit this guy I worked with made me a giant cigarette out of a map tube. He wrapped the top in brown paper, made it look like a real smoke! Then he cut a coin slot thing in the top for me to put the money in I usually spent on cigarettes. Which I did faithfully for awhile, and we used it to go to Disneyland when Manda was in Kindergarten. Then when I quit putting money in it, and realized how long I could go with dollar bills in my wallet---I loved it! Now keep in mind I quit because cigarettes were fixing to go up to a buck fifty a pack!! I was poor so usually bought them a pack at a time. I quit April 1st 1991.

I understand the emotional eating VERY well. I was banded in April (06), and Rick's bad mitral valve was diagnosed in May---then he got a a blood clot in the ileac artery. Postponed open heart surgery until August...had the surgery....traumatic day! Then 2 days before he was due back to work he had a massive GI bleed, his esophagus tore bilaterally where it joins the stomach---just a few inches below where we are banded. He threw up more blood than I have ever seen! And I have been at several slaughters! His Dr. told me to get his kids there that he would likely expire (HATE that word now) in the next 10-15 minutes, he was bleeding to death, due to the amount of blood thinners he was on following the heart surgery! Through an experimental treatment, they managed to save him....several days in ICU---with him comatose the entire time....I could hardly swallow my own spit---I was so stressed, but I wanted to eat---I wanted salt! Chips! I survived with my band on hospital vending machine food for 10 days!!! They were remodeling, and the cafeteria was closed, and they offered most food trays but not in ICU!! Then when I could get real food, after he began rallying around, I didn't want it!!! I liked the snacking!!

He survived....Thank You God! And we went on to the next stressful situation!!

But I DO understand the emotional eating. And send you lots of purple power to sustain you through this!!!

OK---going to go be the nagging DD and get these people moving!!!

Will probably be back tonight---y'all are my salvation from my Dads TV!!!! Although it isn't all bad choices---he only watches each show for maybe 10 minutes, then changes it again---LOL

Catch y'all this evening! Thanks for all my travel wishes!!

Kat

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
