Recommended Posts

I can’t wait to hear how it goes! I know the feeling as it gets closer to my date (12/27). I am starting g my liquid tomorrow a couple days early because I have 10 pound to get back off. In addition to the weight I will lose from this.

im glad the liquid is going well for ya. I hope the post op goes as smooth!

Had my VSG surgery on Dec. 4th. The days following I’ve struggled to stay awake. Which has made getting enough fluids down. I’ve noticed room temperature or warm liquids feel easiest on my stomach at the moment. I’m not hungry or thirsty though, but I keep drinking because I know I have to. I just hope the weakness wears off and I can stay awake and be a little productive in the next week since I’m scheduled to go back to work on the 20th.

Were you tested to see if you have sleep apnea?

My surgery is scheduled for this Tuesday 12/12! Started my liquid diet yesterday and surprisingly went pretty good.

I am excited and nervous rolled into one. But, I am mostly afraid of excessive loose skin and losing my hair. I bought some Protein Powder with collagen and chewable vitamins but does anyone have any recommendations on Shampoo to help prevent lose?

I have yet to get a surgery date, I'm hoping for January. It's interesting how different some doctors are and what they require. My Dr. wants me to do a 2 week liquid diet before surgery. Also, I've been using Premier Protein. It has the most Protein @30grams of most other protein replacements.

@RonHall908 no I wasn’t tested for sleep apnea. I think it’s the blood thinner they have me on. I’m 6 days post op and I’ve quit taking both pain and nausea meds. I’m able to stay awake longer now though… just a little weak and dizzy. Going to get ahold of my doctor on Monday and ask if I can stop the blood thinners too if it persists. No issues meeting my mark for fluids or Protein at the moment.

December 12th here!

Hi surgery buddies!!! Is anyone on the preop diet having trouble with bowels or dizziness? I feel like it is due to the extremely limited calorie intake right now but I was just curious. I know it’s TMI sorry, but I went from constipated to… well… the opposite. I’m thinking it may be because of nerves as well. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this?
Thanks,
Savanna

I start my pre op tomorrow. The thing I have noticed even without the preop is if I am dehydrated I can be dizzy. I would make sure you’re drinking enough Water. As far as the other. I think some of it might be from the Protein Drink you might have chosen? I know some of them have that effect. Like when I was on slim fast for a while it would do that.
I would check the Protein Drinks to see if they might contain more Fiber or carbs than what is recommended. (I just found out mine do 😒) I spent over $35 for a 24 pack so I’m not going to change now. I just won’t use them for post op

if you are having TMI bowel movements lol then maybe you want to add some water or double what you’re drinking because that will cause dizziness because of dehydration.

Hope it helps. Also check your meds, if your on any, that might need to take with food that before wasn’t an issue you might need to take when you have your Protein drink.

I think a lot of his to do with BMI. Another person who is using my surgeon has to do a week of liquid diet.

I use fairlife protein replacements and it has 30g and they have other options with 42g. I just prefer the 30g bc it is smoother and tastes like chocolate milk.

Typically they give you a surgery date prior to starting the liquid diet though! I hope you get your date soon.

Hmm. I’ve been on the same Protein Shake since I started it all but maybe since that’s the ONLY thing I’m drinking aside from Water, it’s impacting me more than normal. I’m not on any meds (thankfully) and the more I think about it the more I think my increase in water is probably more so the cause of my influx in “going”. I am using premier for my Protein Shakes but I think I’m maxing at 300 calories a day and it doesn’t leave me feeling good.

I’m grateful I’m learning WILLPOWER though! Everyone had pizza today and I drank my Protein shake. It’s a hard one to learn to smell and see foods that we would have previously chowed down on and now to walk away. But in the end, it will all be worth it!

Here’s to willpower and health! ❤️

Oh I pray for that will power!!! I have already set boundaries with my ex and told him I will not be going out to eat anymore and that I will be cooking my own meals so he needs to stop inviting me over for dinner! I do t know hat he is going to do now that he won’t be able to “control” me with food.

I didn’t tell him about surgery just that I am working on slimfast meal plan. He is a negative about everything.

I have been having all my “favorite foods” the last couple of weeks and I don’t know if it is the mindset change or what but I am finding them less enjoyable as before. I think it is because I’m just looking at them as food now and not so much craving them.

I hope the will power lasts through and I plan on having sashimi and air fry asparagus for my 6 week meal! I planned it so that I can have something enjoyable to kick off my regular meal plan.

🤞🏻 here’s to positive vibes to you

You totally got this!! It’s mind over matter. Once you get into that preop phase, it all changes. You have to be willing to choose NEW you over OLD you. The more you say no to the things that tempt you so much, the easier it becomes. The people we love are not likely to stop eating the things that we love just because WE do. I began to say no when I realized that it was derailing my progress. My surgery is in 3 days and I am down 32 lbs already just being more strict. I wanted to have my MIND ready for what is to come so I’ve been doing this for about 3 months now and it’s done so good. Once you begin to see your progress on the scale and when people say “you look slimmer” it becomes easier and easier to say no, even though you want to say yes. Trust me, I am no stranger to temptation! I wanted to say yes so many times this past week alone, but I refuse to be a slave to the food that held me captive and stole my confidence. Once I’m able to eat again, I will slowly implement the foods I loved, but differently. Starch-free and low cab/sugar/fat everything. At this point I’d kill just to chew solid food of ANY kind! Haha. It’s not an easy road, but neither is the commitment that you’re maki by by taking this step! Train your brain to avoid those temptations as much as you can and know YOU. GOT. THIS.. and you’re worth it!

wishing you love and success!

Savanna

In the UK it’s not about BMI, on the NHS you have to do a LRD for three weeks prior to your surgery!! I’m nearly two weeks into it, one week left on Tuesday before my surgery on the 19th!! I’m 14lb down though so far.

Try finding Bariatric Surgery cookbooks. I got one that goes from preop to 6weeks and beyond. Try thrift books stores online. That is where I found my two. I got a cookbook and I got a smoothie book. There are so many. I am trying to set myself up for after surgery success

I got a Gastric Sleeve cookbook. If you Google search bariatric cookbooks you should be able to find some great ones.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
