Post-Op Weight Loss stall - when will it end????

Recommended Posts

Everyone talks about the post-op weight loss stall - when does it pick up again? I'm trying not to compare myself to other people's successes, but honestly am frustrated. I am 3 weeks post-op and still on the pureed foods program. I'm only getting about 4-600 calories a day and reach for about 80g of Protein and make it there most days thanks to my shakes. The scale hasn't moved in a week - I guess I should be asking my surgical team, but when can I expect that to change? I know I don't walk like I should, I suppose I should do more than 30 minutes a day. My doctor also told me to take a laxative every 3-4 days due to the dietary restrictions causing Constipation. Any encouragement would be appreciated.

I stalled week 2 and then stalled frequently the entire way (I honestly lost count of how many stalls I had). It's frustrating, but all you can do is stick to the plan, be patient, distract yourself and stay off the scale. It will break when your body is ready, and sometimes that's a week, sometimes it's many weeks. I know it sucks when it's happening, but it's a normal part of the process.

they typically last 1-3 weeks. Mine lasted two weeks and then I dropped like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. Hang in there, stick to your plan, stay off the scale, and know that it WILL break and you'll be on your way again!

My first stall began at 2 weeks post op and lasted nearly a month. Hang in there, it'll break eventually.

I also experienced a two week stall right after surgery. It’s heartbreaking, I had many doubts, I constantly wonder if I was doing something wrong. Mostly I was concerned about experiencing Constipation pre op I was always regular but now I was having a movement every 3 days. That was hard and concerning for me. I tried taking more Fiber in any way possible. Finally at the start of my fourth week post op things were moving along easier. Once that happen I started to see my weight move as well. I’m a little more relief now I do focus on my Water, fiber, Protein and getting more steps in. That seems to have help with my two issues. I am not losing weight not as fast as others but I’m ok, just trying to focus on the process.

I have an Etekcity bathroom scales that charts weight, BMI, etc. I weight every morning, I feel it gives me an immediate insight as to things I did or didn't do appropriately: such as, did I have too much salt, did I drink enough Water, did I get enough Protein, what was my calorie count, and after surgery bathroom visits change a lot. I have had stalls, and increases, of course, but I think just being mindful works for me. Best wishes to everyone!

One of my stalls lasted 4 weeks. Just stick to your plan & you will definitely break it!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
