Any April Surgery Dates?

Recommended Posts

I did it! Had my lap sleeve surgery yesterday and can proudly say that I survived. I did feel nauseous afterward and until I went to sleep last night. But today the nausea does seem to be gone. Also, since they inflate the belly for the laparoscopic work, the gas pains were insufferable. I sent my husband out to get GasX and it was a lifesaver. Highly recommend those getting the lap sleeve to make sure you have GasX too. Good luck!

Had my sleeve yesterday. Got home this afternoon. All went well and even with a tiny cheat during my liquid pre-op diet, I lost almost 10 lbs and surgeon said it made a big difference as she was in and out in less than 30 minutes.
On the bad side, I’ve been in substantial pain. Walking as much as I can but man, this gas pain is no joke. I woke up from anesthesia pretty much screaming. Every hour tho gets better and I’m finally starting to see the light at the end of the gas pain tunnel. Gas X (dissolvable) is def your friend.
I also packed a bunch of stuff for the hospital and used 3 things only - my chapstick, my beloved pillow and Evian Water spray, which helped with the dryness. Oh, and my toothbrush. Everything else was a waste tho.

Had Gastric By Pass April 5 th. Left the Hospital Thursday the 6 th. Doctor was concerned I wasn’t walking enough and put me on Heparin shots once a day for 2 weeks. I am walking, even took my first shower this morning. Hardest thing to deal with at this time is gas and Diarrhea occasionally. I am not sure why the Diarrhea is even happening since I am drinking mostly Water.

I think it's possible but I wouldn't recommend it. If you could get an extra couple days off at least, that would be ideal imo.

My gastric bypass was performed on Tues. April 4th. The procedure lasted 4 hrs since the doc was repairing a hiatal hernia at the same time. I was 2 hrs. in recovery so my fam was starting to get worried by 6PM despite the hourly updates.

No complications. Pain was minimal. No nausea, vomiting or gas pain. Dry mouth from hell. Sipped Water day 1. Walked a lap and up another time to use bathroom. Surprised they didn't walk me more. b4 going home. Day 2 . Tolerated meals well. Tried a little of everything they brought me. Discharged me that afternoon.

Felt more pain at home. Mostly pulling on incisions as I bent over, stood or tried turning over in bed. Sipping on prescribed Hydrocod helps for pain. Walking on my treadmill every couple hrs for 5 minutes to prevent clots. Drinking my Protein Drinks and water for now till appetite returns. Not weighing till after inflammation goes down.

Overall...so far so good. Pain lessens each day. Praying for a speedy recovery for all of you this month!!!

I wouldn’t recommend going to work 2 Days later. Have you spoken to your Bariatric Doctor to find out what the recommended time period off should be? I also had a Hiatal Hernia and on a strict liquid diet. Till Day 7 then I go into phase 2. I am very sore and swollen and taking one thing at a time.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
