Recommended Posts

Super shaky feeling like there’s a big lump in my chest and my mouth gets super duper dry not too super what to do about it I call my surgeon and they tell me to go to the hospital where I had the surgery done at and they basically give me fluids and tell me it’s all in my head I have no clue what to do and I’m freaking out

Try adding an electrolyte drink to your Fluid rota. The boost of energy will help with the shakiness. it’s likely caused by the restricted diet & low calories. I had it a lot & still have episodes of it. For me it’s hypoglycaemia. I pop blue berries now if I feel an episode coming on. Plus I had low blood pressure (always has a tendency to it) so I was shaky, light headed, losing vision & generally woopsy wooing every day. It got better once I was eating more & a wider variety of foods.

Also try Biotene mouth moisturising spray for your dry mouth.

Sorry your surgeon isn’t being helpful. May be approach your GP & ask if hypoglycaemia could be a cause or what other things could be behind it & what could you do to alleviate it.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday. The following Saturday, I had the most severe panic attack I've had in years. I had been off medication for several months, but I had to go back on it. It was the same for the Medical Assistant in my surgeon's office, too. She started having anxiety attacks, real soon after surgery.

Maybe that's what you're having?

In addition to the great advice above, I'd recommend creating a diary or log to help you track this. There are lots of different potential causes, so the more you can document, the more likely you can find the cause. Some things to document:

  1. Start by making note of the following:
  2. Any specific symptoms. "Shaky" can mean different things to different people, so you want to be more descriptive.
  3. Are you having any other symptoms that either occur at the same time or shortly before or after?
  4. The time it starts and the time it stops.
  5. Whether this comes on suddenly, or if it's more gradual.
  6. Other daily things such as the when you eat, when you drink, when you get up, when you go to bed, etc.
  7. what specifically you were doing when it started.
  8. What if anything you did to make it stop and how effective it was.

After a while, you may start to see some patterns emerge such as

  1. Whether or not this happens only once a day, or multiple times a day.
  2. Maybe it happens at roughly the same time every day or maybe it's more random? If it's more random, are you noticing any other patterns?
  3. Maybe you are more likely to be in a particular room or participating in a specific activity when this occurs?
  4. maybe it's correlated with meals? (Up to 30-60 minutes before or after.)
  5. Perhaps it happens after eating something specific?

I think you get the idea here. The more details you put into your log, the more likely you are to find help. Once you have this info, I think it will really help your medical team find possible causes.

Also if you have access to a blood pressure monitor and a blood sugar test kit, checking those things multiple times a day, but especially when this issue occurs, would be a really good idea. If you do have access to those, add the readings to your log.

I hope you figure it out. I know from experience that having no idea what's going on with your body is super annoying.

I had this when I was not drinking enough, and eating enough calories because of a swollen suture line in my new tummy. Then I had it again when I had dropped a lot of weight and needed to come off my blood pressure medication, I just didn't need it anymore. I had it randomly yesterday morning when I got out of bed too quickly and got busy. I ate some yogurt and had a large milky coffee and I was fine. When I am out I always take a Protein Bar in case this happens when I have skipped a meal

@SpartanMaker gave excellent advice, I do this whenever something new happens. This set of symptoms could be just about anything. It could be a Panic Attack. It could be light late dumping. This is why logging everything can lead you or your medical team to a cause.

Don't accept that it's "just in your head," yet. I swear, Doctors sometimes.

I get pretty much get the same collection of symptoms. It invariably means I haven't been eating/drinking well or well enough for what I'm doing or how I'm doing it. I usually feel it coming before I get the full on shakes, I usually tell my spouse "I'm getting wobbly" which means I need to eat something now. For me, I know I do this to myself.

Good luck,

Tek

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
