Anyone have issues with Premier Protein shakes? I’m 1 week post-op and starting on Friday last week, I started having issues with them. When drinking them it would make my stomach upset, give me a weird film in my mouth that would leave a weird aftertaste and I couldn’t get rid of. Even brushing my teeth it would stay. Because I couldn’t stomach it, I switched to a plant based powder and use fairlife fat-free and so far I’ve been fine. I have had lactose issues in the past, so wondering if this may be that or if others have experienced something similar.

definitely could be lactose - it's not uncommon to develop lactose intolerance after WLS. It's usually temporary, but not always. Another common culprit are certain kinds of artificial sweeteners. Sugar alcohols (those whose names end in -itol, such as xylitol) are especially troublesome for some people.

I’ve always been sensitive to artificial sweeteners (at least the taste of them), and some more than others. It seems now after surgery, it’s even more sensitive. I had some yogurt yesterday and left a weird aftertaste that wouldn’t go away for about an hour.

My only problem is I always have chunks in them! It is soooo gross so now I strain them into a cup before drinking.

It is annoying though, so I am working through my stash and then back to making my own shakes. I just prefer the convenience of the pre-made.

I haven’t been able to tolerate premier shakes even preop. Theres a lot in premier shakes that could be causing you issues - whey Protein, artificial sugars, lactose. My stomach has a hard time with whey protein but I can drink the fairlife Protein Drinks. Fairlife is my favorite Protein Shake hands down - it doesn’t have whey protein added to it but it is made with milk. You may want to try a plant based protein to see if that’s the issue! I like the OWYN brand for plant based pea protein.

Some people do develop lactose intolerance after the surgery. I did get the film feeling preop but after it was fine and I can still have them today, I do switch up the flavors not to get bored. I also use the Elite which has 42g of Protein in one bottle but have only found chocolate when I have one of those it is so much easier to reach that protein goal.

I had something similar happen. Some people's tastes dramatically change (as in the don't like things they liked before, or vice versa), but in my case, they didn't change - but they intensified. Sweet things tasted sweeter, spicy things tasted spicier, bitter things tasted more bitter. That might be what's going on with you as well. I think in my case it was temporary because i don't notice it anymore - or maybe I just got used to it...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
