7 Days Into Pre-Op Diet... 7 Days Until Surgery .. Bowels Still Producing

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am having Gastric Sleeve surgery in 7 days. I am 7 days into my Pre-Op diet.

I am still having bowel movements that are producing solid..

It's lessening but I'm curious:

1. Is this normal?

2. Where is it coming from?

My consumption is

5 shakes per day + 64 oz Hydration Fluids including 32 oz Water, 12 oz Gatorade Zero . 8 oz Jello, 4 oz Decaf coffee, 4 oz broth.

I am also taking Metamicil 3x/day.

Thanks you and God Bless.

Yes its normal, there is fibre in the Protein Shakes. Plus you are taking psyllium husk 3 times a day which is more fibre. This bulks out your stools and I hope it explains things for you.

I would think it is normal, food in food out, even if liquid. I had to do a bowel cleanse the night before surgery.

Only Clear Liquids the night before starting at 6pm and a bowel cleanse between 8-10 pm.

I was STILL pooping the next morning and was convinced I was going to poop on the operating table. I don't know if I did because I don't think they commonly share that information but I would bet i did. LOL Embarrassing! But, I am sure they are used to it and worse has happened. hahaha

Totally normal. Don’t even worry about your stool consistency. Some don’t even have to do a bowel prep or pre op diet for that matter. Just make sure you’re not constipated going in. Otherwise it’s all good.

Metamucil is fibre so having that 3 times a day is where the poop is coming from lol. You won't be able to take Metamucil after surgery as it swells in your tummy ,so can I suggest cloudy pear juice to keep things moving

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
