high wbc in preop labs

Recommended Posts

i had preop blood work yesterday and saw the results in my electronic chart yesterday evening (before dr lol). i normally have an elevated wbc (been checked out twice by hematologist - it’s just how i am) but it was elevated a bit from my normal range… i had the flu in early october and wonder if that could be messing with me still…

i am waiting to hear from dr to see if that matters to them… it’s so high from normal i expect a call, but it’s just slightly higher for me naturally

did you have a pre op issue with wbc? how was it handled ?

I have leukocytosis, so I know what elevated wbc count is like. Luckily I was diagnosed with it 10 years ago so it's noted and highlighted in my chart. If you were sick this month, they might still be up from it. Since you normally have elevated wbc, maybe see if you have leukocytosis, too, and have them highlight it in your chart, as well.

Do you have a family dr or someone that is aware of this normally elevated white count. If so and the surgeon has issue with it maybe ask if a quick call or note from their office would make everyone happy. Or the hematologist records maybe?

hematologist was 6-7 years ago but my main dr knows all about it… normal wbc is 7-10… i usually run 13-17… yesterday was 20, so double normal limit… so-far i haven’t gotten a call about it, so maybe not a problem (wishful thinking)…

just don’t want anything to derail things at this point !!

(side note: my a1c dropped from 6.2 to 6.1! was hoping for more but i will take any reduction)

I wonder if it would be better to call them and ask if it matters. How much time do you have to get it all straightened out? (Awesome that your other numbers are starting to lower).

Ok thank you so much for the information. I’m trying to figure out scheduling pre-op cause I’ll probably have to go out of town.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
