Feeling down….

Recommended Posts

Almost through my 4th week post op…. 3 weeks with no real weight movement. I know I’m a bit dehydrated - I’m assuming that’s why I have crushing fatigue. But not enough so that fluids are warranted apparently

I’ve worked on increasing my calories and Protein. It’s hit or miss but I am getting a decent amount, but my weight isn’t moving at all.

When I say the fatigue is crushing - I mean any exertion of effort wipes me out. I see my pcp tomorrow - but I’m not sure he will have any suggestions the surgeon and nutritionist haven’t already offered. I am measuring and weighing every bite and I am only eating what I’m suppose to.

I don’t feel well enough to exercise so I don’t imagine I will have much progress until that happens. I feel stuck/trapped right now.

I know it will pass… I’m sure things will get better. It’s just really hard when I can’t even stand at the sink to wash dishes. My family is being very supportive and helping (kids and husband) but that almost makes me feel worse. They are doing things I should be. I just want to feel better.

I’m trying to focus on the positives, I’ve lost weight, my body’s changing, my clothes are getting bigger…. I’m wearing things I couldn’t before. My Kees still hurt, but less. My liver is improving. My health is going in the right direction.

Tuesday is 5 weeks. I don’t regret the surgery at all, I’m just disappointed in me and my lack of progress to this point. Sorry I just needed to vent my frustration.

Thanks so much for listening.

The beginning is the hardest because you're still recovering from surgery, still getting used to the huge changes to your lifestyle, but haven't seen all the benefits of the weight loss yet. It does get easier, as you progress through the post-op stages and lose weight. You will start to feel "normal" again, maybe a new and different normal, and this weird and difficult post-op period will eventually be a blur in your memory. Hang in there!

You're gonna be ok. You literally went through a life-altering surgery, it's ok to feel a little unsteady about things. Eventually, things will begin to get easier and you'll start noticing more positives than negatives. We all lose at different rates and no two of our stories are the same. Just keep your chin up and never stop moving forward :)

This is major surgery we have gone through, and we don't give ourselves time to get over it. We are human not super humans. Take the help whilst its offered, in a while you will have so much energy that you won't be able to sit still for long. You will be able to repay your family then in love and extra mummy duties. sleep, rest and heal.

*Big hugs*
that is so frustrating! You have worked hard and want to see more for the efforts.

maybe changing up your routine may knock you out of the stall. maybe a new beverage that will help hydrate you so your body can process everything else better? maybe getting a little more sunlight with a short walk?

sometimes the smallest change can make a big difference and get things moving again!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
