Trying to Reach Ideal Body Weight?

Recommended Posts

My team (surgeon, dietician and exercise physiologist) were all very adamant that I don’t set my weight loss goals too low. I’m 5’4” and started at 223 (age 55). When I wanted to set my goal to 120 (based on a healthy BMI) they freaked out and said it was not a realistic goal. I was then encouraged to create “phase 1 and phase 2” goals, so I picked 160 and 140 pounds. I’m on week 14 and I have almost reached 160 pounds. I feel like 140 lbs is completely achievable. I will wait and see how I look and feel at 140 lbs.

No one on my Dr's office asked me what the goal weight is. I want to be healthy, I'm thinking 120-140. I was 120 after graduating from high school and after having both kids. I'm losing very slow (insulin resistance) I've heard after the "honeymoon" period its harder to loose. So I'm trying to keep my mind open. My surgeon said the average person losses 50 pounds, that would put me at a much healthier weight, but I would be chubby still.

My surgeon asked me what I wanted to achieve in my life (I said to get back to running again, and laughed inwardly as I said it but of course I am now)! He told me that the average loss was 60-70% of excess weight and I'm already past that. My final completely arbitrary goal is 160 lbs but honestly if I stopped losing today at 170 I would still view that as an *enormous* win, even with the chance of a regain in year 2 or 3, which happens to a lot of folks.

My 'ideal' body weight is apparently 145 (just went to an online calculator), which I think would be too thin for me. I have no intention of restricting my diet in order to maintain some unachievable final weight that I have in my head - I've spent a lifetime doing that. I want to relax into my new life and enjoy it!

When I say too thin for me I mean I remember my mother saying years ago that after a certain age when losing weight you have to choose between your face and your arse (pardon the vulgarity) and I intend to choose my face because more people see that :D:D:D

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
