Vitamins

Recommended Posts

I was told I would have to stop taking Vitamins a few weeks before surgery. But, why would you want to take them? The only reason to take bariatric vitamins is because you can't absorb vitamins due to a malabsorptive procedure or you can't eat enough of a variety of foods due to a restrictive procedure. otherwise, mostly vitamins just aren't necessary

I was also told to stop taking Vitamins a certain amount of weeks before surgery. But in reality taking bariatric vitamins before surgery is a waste. You will literally just pee most of it out. The body can only absorb so much and the rest goes out in pee.

I started taking mine about 3 months before surgery to make it a habit. I am really terrible with meds/vitamins, and I knew it would be necessary post-op (per my surgeon's requirements), so I wanted to make it part of my routine well in advance. That being said, there really is no nutritional/health benefits to it, unless you have a known deficiency. I was instructed to stop taking mine for the 2 weeks prior to surgery, which is very common.

After surgery only too. (But I didn’t take them before anyway.) Think it’s so they get an accurate blood test reading to compare with post surgery tests. Plus supplements might hide any absorption issues you may have or Vitamins, minerals, etc. you are naturally lacking. This test should help inform the breadth of vitamins you may need after surgery too. My Iron levels were great before surgery & continued to be good after so I didn’t need to take an additional iron supplement.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
