Soft drinks whilst out

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am 8 weeks post bypass and I am wondering which soft drinks I can have when I go out to a pub/bar/out for a meal (I live in the UK). I literally can’t think of anything that isn’t fizzy or full of sugar apart from Water. Any ideas would be appreciated 😊

I just have Water. Ask for a slice of lemon or lime so people don’t immediately think you’re just drinking water. In time you may be able to tolerate/be allowed to have some carbonation (sparkling water, soda water). You can stir it vigorously so some of the carbonation reduces & if you take it slowly a lot will abate as you sip. I went out for a ladies lunch last week & two of us just had water while the others all had wine or champagne. It’s certainly cheaper 😉. It can be a bit of a change of mind set initially if you’re used to drinking alcohol or carbonated drinks when you go out. Honestly, I sometimes had an alcoholic drink if I went out when I was past month 2 of the losing phase. I would have one glass & sip for literally hours & it was only about once a month.

Soda/fizzy Water with a slice of lime is my choice. Carbonated water makes me feel like I'm having a fancy drink, even though I'm not. I can tolerate the carbonation so long as I just take small sips at a time.

If something is very fizzy you can always give it a stir to knock out most of the gas. In Wetherspoons as an example they have a lightly sparkling raw Kombucha, healthy for the gut. Give it a stir. More generally, call ahead and explain your requirements and ask, so you won't be on the spot once you're there.

At 8 weeks out, I went away with 6 friends with hubby to a All inclusive weeks holiday. I took loads of things to snack on in case of not being able to anything in the restaurant and didnt need much of it. Any way to the point, I drank a few slim tonics and then found Britvic Tomato juice. It came in a 200ml bottle and had 47 cals in it. I put lots of sauce in and pretended it was a bloody mary. It tasted deliciously healthy and full of goodness and a great change from blackcurrant and Water .

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
