Day 5 - Tired, hungry, pain. Normal?

Recommended Posts

It always makes me feel better to hear, "It's normal. It will get better." And if it's not, then I need to know. 😆

I am day 5 after hiatal hernia repair and gastric sleeve surgery. I am so hungry (growling stomach hunger) and everything sounds appetizing. I definitely still have pain, which is getting better, but the worst is how tired and weak I am. Normal?

yes - you just had major surgery, esp since you had hernia repair done at the same time. I remember feeling tired for the first couple of months - although it was the worst the first two or three weeks. After that, it gradually got better.

Absolutely normal. You are doing fine. Give yourself grace, the process will work!

Thanks, Catwoman. How about the hunger? I am actually wondering if the hunger is my thyroid medication. I take two forms: slower release T4 hormone and quick release T3 hormone. I kind of suspect the T3 stimulates appetite.

And yeah, I didn't realize how major the hiatal hernia repair was. The surgeon said things like, "We lifted your stomach, pulled it down, and put it back in its cavity" and something about pushing the diaphragm. I have a feeling that procedure was more major than the sleeve procedure.

You may be one of the unlucky ones like me, who did not lose their hunger after surgery - my therapist said that happens to about 20% of her patients.

I've never heard of thyroid medications increasing hunger, but talk to your doctor.

But... even if you are hungry now, once you get on solid foods, you may be less hungry.

Hang in there!

After the first 5 or 6 days you are going to feel significantly better all of a sudden. Hang in there, you will start to notice it soon. Make sure you are getting up and walking to keep things moving...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
