Anyone prescribed prophylactic medications post surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi

So I was prescribed two medications post surgery to ward of side effects. First Famotidine for the first two weeks to ward off GERD. I may be placed back on if I ended up with an issue with GERD. Second medication Ursodiol I start today as I am now on soft foods. The medication is to ensure I do not get gallstones. Dis anyone Have to take prophylactic Ursodiol or if anyone had issues with gallstones?

that's a pretty standard medication for the first few months after weight loss surgery. I think I had to take it for six months. It doesn't ENSURE you won't get gallstones, but it cuts the risk of getting them pretty considerably.

Thanks I just wanted to see how common it was.

that's the same as ursodiol. One is a brand name, the other is a generic. I can't remember which is which, but it's the same drug.

Prilosec for 6 weeks, Ursodiol for 6 months, and 1 week of blood thinners. I also got a script for pain meds that I didn't use, OTC Gas-x, antibiotics, etc. I think that's all pretty standard, varying from surgeon to surgeon.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
