No date yet, but finishing up my 3 months worth of dietitian appointments and follow-up with psych next week. With any luck I’ll get the surgery by November

Just didn’t psyche evaluation yesterday. Was nervous but it was a pleasant experience. Now just have to get through seeing the nutritionist then 4 months of a medically supervised diet. Hopefully surgery by February. Fingers crossed. So glad I won’t need the liquid pre op diet just no more than 1400 cals a day for 2 weeks before surgery. Can’t wait. Good luck to you all.

How did you like Dr. Tanner? I’m still looking for a surgeon in case I’m not too happy with the one I was assigned.

Hi! I loved Dr. Tanner and the UNMC Bariatric Center. Everybody there is well informed, thorough, and pleasant to work with. They roll the red carpet out for you. I was nervous and worrying about the surgery, because I’m 53 and have grandkids that I care for, so that weighed heavy on me. Dr. Tanner reassured me, beside normal surgery risks, and stated that she has not lost a patient before, which eased my worry. I hope you find a great provider! Best wishes for you on your journey and for a speedy recovery. Thank you for reaching out.

Excellent! I passed my psych eval and will visit the surgeon soon. Now pushing out my deadline… with any luck I’ll get my surgery by March of next year.

That’s great! The process is definitely a long one, but in the end I found that it was worth it and made the difference. Changing to a new lifestyle was a little easier after going through that long process leading up to surgery and then afterward. I hope the next couple months go quickly and smoothly for you. Nice talking with you again. Reach out anytime.

I’m going to my last pre-op appointment (I believe) not this Tuesday but next to meet the surgeon and decided which surgery I’m getting. I also see UNMC is postponing surgeries as of 12/7/21 and am getting increasingly worried that it’ll affect me…

@Lussa I was in your shoes last year with surgeries being postponed. I ended up having to schedule a couple months out and by then I was able to get it. Honestly I am a believer that things happen in the time they are supposed to happen and usually go better than I could imagine! Praying this for your surgery!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
