Postoperative surgery questions!

Recommended Posts

I had the bypass surgery yesterday and experienced no issues other than the abdominal pain you experience which honestly feel more Ike hunger pains. My question is how much were others able to drink one day out of surgery? I’ll be lucky to get in 2 bottles of waters today! And am worried about hydration here!

Congrats on the surgery and happy recovery!

Don't worry about the Water, yet. 32 oz for day 1 should be OK. You're still full of the IV saline they pumped into you during the surgery and hospital stay. Now, it is important to keep a bottle near you at all times, and take small sips every 10-15 minutes or so (1-2 oz at a time). Do that ALL DAY, all waking hours. You'll see that the ounces slowly add up.

My surgeon also told me the more you sip, the quicker your stomach "learns" how to work with its new plumbing. It's REALLY hard at first, and I did end up at urgent care once for dehydration. But I'm a little over four weeks out and I can't chug, but I can drink a liter of Water fairly quickly if I need to (usually when work was busy and I forgot to sip much during the day and have to make it up at night). It will take me about 90 minutes to get through 32 oz.

2 bottles? You did better than me unfortunately I didn’t start drinking until week 6 when the swelling went down and the thrush went away. Looks like you’re getting there.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
