should I be worried?

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric sleeve surgery ten days ago. Was having difficulty tolerating Water. Today was my first followup with my doctor. He gave me the greenlight to proceed with soft food phase (a week earlier than the expected date on the center's program). I managed to eat some of the food suggested (e.g. chicken salad for lunch, tuna salad and soft veggies for dinner) with absolutely no discomfort nor feeling of any restriction. I only had to stop to stay within 2 oz but I could probably eat twice of three times as much as that amount. I feel hunger pains and I can drink the 11 oz Premier Protein within a few minutes.

I thought the whole point of the surgery is to feel less hunger, or to only be able to eat very tiny amounts without feeling hungry. Should I be worried? Has this happened to you? Any suggestions? I mean I am happy I can keep the food I eat, but wonder if I will lose weight this way!!

Don't worry. Most of us have this issue with soft foods. When you get to real food you'll feel the restriction.

Surgery helps, but you still have to follow a diet and be accountable. I was incredibly hungry after my surgery. Within a few days, I wanted to gnaw my leg off, I was starving. Luckily, we progressed to reasonable calorie levels rapidly. At about 1200 calories a day, I didn't feel like I was starving to death anymore. LOL. Getting there helped. Stayed there during all of loss phase and it wasn't too uncomfortable. For maintenance, I eat more.

You will eventually have less casual hunger due to reduction of hunger hormones....it will be easier than before the surgery. But right now, with SUPER restricted calories, you might feel weak and hungry AF for a while.

It gets better. You can eat more of "slider" foods....stuff that zips right through...like the shakes. More solid food will slow you down a lot.

I'm RNY, but it's similar. LIke others have said, you'll notice the restriction when you start on solid food. I still feel it six years later when I eat something dense like a chicken breast.

6 years. Good. I'm hoping mine lasts.

I had the same concern. Everyone says you feel the real restriction when you get to solid foods. I’m not there yet but also learned that most people eat about 6 times a day on the puréed and liquid diets.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
