Wasn't Expecting That!

Recommended Posts

Hello! My surgeon cleared me to resume activity as normal on Tuesday and I went back to the gym on Wednesday. Nothing crazy, 25 min of light cardio and about 20 minutes of light strength training.

Thursday morning I woke up feeling off, and the more sore my muscles got the worse I felt. Like yucky. Just completely worn out.

I'm hitting my Protein and fluid goals (90oz and 90g) daily. I am just over 4 weeks PO, but like I said, cleared for activity.

Too soon for the strength training? Should I try weights again in a few weeks?

I was so certain I was going easy on myself, lol.

I'm doing the same exercise routine basically. I waited until 6 weeks but maybe that depends on your procedure and/or the surgeon. If you've been cleared, I'd keep at it as long as you dont feel like poo poo :)

I still have not started a routine yet. I am almost 6 months out. I have fibromyalgia, and am scared to death of being in more pain. Someone else on here just let me know that she just started, and she is more than a year post op. I guess you will know when the time is right for you. Just because your doc says its ok....they don't know how you actually feel. Just my opinion.

My surgeon said no weights until 6 weeks out, but that's just to prevent tearing stitches. I wasn't really exercising much before surgery, and I didn't start until probably a couple of months after surgery.

In your case, I'm guessing there are a couple of issues in play. First, at only 4 weeks post-op, you're probably not consuming many calories. You should follow the advice of your surgeon, but just FYI, there are some surgeons who do not recommend starting exercise this early because you're not getting enough calories to provide the energy for a good workout. Dr. Vuong has a whole video on YouTube about why you shouldn't work out too soon after WLS (take his advice with a grain of salt because he's into some shady stuff, but his WLS advice seems fairly legit).

The other thing is that if this was your first workout in a month (or more), you can't just pick up where you left off. It will take a while to get back in the same shape you were before. I played sports when I was a kid and I remember I had a coach who always said it takes twice as long to get back into shape as the time you take off. For example, if you take a week off, it takes two weeks to get back into shape. I don't know how accurate that is, but I definitely think it's true that you need some time to work your way back to where you were before.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
