It’s very tough, not going to lie. I’ll be cheering you on from the rhythm section ❤️

  • I did a 2-week liquid diet (protein shakes) with no solid food at all. As others have said, it gets easier after a few days. Also, you won't feel this hungry again for months after your surgery.

I started my preop diet yesterday and it’s hard for sure. I have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and 3-4oz. Meat and a non starchy veggie. My snacks are 2oz meat or cheese or boiled eggs and one no starchy veggie plus a healthy fat. 64 oz water and 4 dill pickles or 2 cups broth per day. The bad news is it’s for three weeks! Surgery date is March 23 for SADI.

I think it’s so interesting how much variety there is in the pre-op diet from doctor to doctor. I absolutely had no solid foods during my pre-op only 3 protein drinks ( 20g of protein no more than 5g sugar) plus 64 oz of water and sugar free popsicle or jello and chicken broth. No solid food whatsoever. And that’s what I had 2 weeks before and two weeks after. So interesting....

Mine is 4 protein shakes / day and 4 cups of non starchy veg/day. I have to use either bariatric advantage or fusion shakes. I haven't started yet, but the samples they gave me of the shake flavors are terrible ?

I am Day 12 of 14- surgery is in 3 days! Protein shake for breakfast, small fruit for snack mid morning- protein shake for lunch, 4 oz nf cottage cheese or nf, sf greek yogurt for a snack and then 4 oz lean protein and 1 cup veggie for dinner. 64 oz of water per day- I have put sugar free pink lemonade mix ins in some of them to break up the monotany and I can have sf jello and popsicles as part of my fluid intake.

It's so different surgeon to surgeon I didn't even have a pre-op diet, just had to fast from midnight the day before.

I never did the popsicles and I got sick of jello ( cuz I could only eat half of the serving which what was allowed) But, what I couldn’t keep down by phase 3 was protein shakes. What really helped was water infusers and I Am in phase 5 part two so 3oz. Protein 3x a day. I’m still having to supplement. I used protein2.0 water and Isopure water infuser powder instead of protein shakes. That made it tolerable and palatable for me. Now at week 10 post op and I’m still supplementing at least 20oz. But I can live with it.

I am having two protein shakes a day and clear liquids (bone broth, jello, popsicles, etc). I started yesterday and it is h-ll. Today I just slept. Couldn’t concentrate on work yesterday. I’m hungry!!! Surgery is March 22.

Just focus on the goal. It’s hard I know. I kept thinking I wanted my liver to be shrunk really small so it would make the surgery as smooth as possible. I just wanted to minimize any risk I could. But it’s worth it. My health is so improved, I’ve lost almost 60lbs and I’m at week 10 post op. I walk and swim and workout and I can even cross my legs now. Hang in there.

One,

you are gonna be ok. It’s a hump and it takes time to make the change. I was so hungry too, but eventually that passed I got used to the liquid thing. Thankfully, after your surgery you will progress from liquids to solids in stages. Weeks 5-6 post op were the worst for me. I could not drink one more shake. But, I had to get the protein or I wasn’t going to heal properly. So I found infusers and that worked to get me through and to this day I still drink them. There will be so much going on with changes just try to remember why you did it and stay the course. This is a lifelong change for the better and things will be different than you had been used to. But you can get through it?
