Progress, Soft Foods start tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

So it's day 13 since my surgery. I have lost 21lbs while on the full liquids. I have now lost 60lbs from my high.

Just curious, will my weight loss slow down on soft foods?

I started walking each day around the block from my house. .75 miles. Did that for about 4 days, then reversed and did two laps.

With the exception of the belly button blowing continually and having to be drained due to the umbilical hernia, the surgery so far has went without any pain except for the gas pain the day of the surgery. I feel good. Tired, but good. Not that I felt bad at my high of 417.

Wierd thing is, I haven't eaten anything since 1/28 and I'm not the least bit hungry. Don't get me wrong, I want to eat, but not because i'm hungry, but because I'm sick of these Protein Shakes. :) So looking forward to scrambled EGG in the morning tomorrow.

OHHHH, and i'm looking forward to tomorrow being the last of my two blood thinner shots!!!! They suck.

If in Virgina, and thinking of this surgery, please consider my doc, Dr. Nicholas Dugan, at Novant Health UVA in Haymarket VA. He's a great doc, great HONEST bedside manner. He is very young, but I was one of his first patients using the davinci and could not be more pleased.

Sounds like you are doing well. I just told my husband and daughter I can't wait to eat a scrambled egg on Monday morning when I can finally switch to pureed foods.

Luckily i don't have a pureed food stage. I only have 4 stages: Preop, Clear liquid after surgery while in hosp, Soft foods, and then everything. :) I am so looking forward to a scrambled Egg tomorrow. I hope i don't regret it!

I got some Silk Ultra Protein Soy Milk that I plan to mix a couple tbsp into to fluff them up a bit.

Sorry, i can't eat anything that looks like someone ate it before me and threw it up in a bowl. I am the fussiest fat guy ever. I don't eat casseroles, nothing with gravy on it, nothing that swims, only veggies i eat are corn, peas, green Beans, beets, and carrots. Think diet of a 13 year old male.

I seldomly try anything new, and my main motto is "if it doesn't look good, isn't cooked well done, and doesn't taste good, I'm not eatin it"...

You may find your new system may find a new set of likes and dislikes! Don't be surprised if you can only get a few bites of that egg in and it may take you an hour or so to eat an egg! I am almost three months post VSG and I can only eat one scrambled egg and I am absolutely stuffed, some mornings I can not even get the whole egg in. Foods that are more dense set differently and just one more bite will make you sick like you wont eat again for two days !

I used to absolutely hate gravy now all my meat has to have gravy on it or I cannot get it down, strangest thing ever....I don't know if they did a brain surgery on me when they put me under at the same time as my VSG or what but now if my chicken or beef doesn't have gravy on it I cannot eat it. I used to love veggies of all type, now I am uber fussy about which ones I like and most of them have to be raw??? super duper odd......

pizza makes ill and I used to love it...all my tastes have changed. BUT I am losing weight so I am happy :)

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
