I had a nonfat latte with one shot in it three days post op. Once I was able to drink larger amounts of liquid I restarted my morning latte (two shots of espresso and steamed fairlife milk). A few days a week I have a cup of black coffee in the afternoon as well. I’m 2.5 months postop.

Never any issues, helps me get my Protein in, and is my big “treat” per day. My MD never really had an issue with coffee one way or the other- or if he did I must have blocked that messaging out or something haha.

Lucky! Mine is a stickler!

Yeah my dr said Decaf for now. I’m just too scared to try. Also, since coffee is a diuretic, it can cause dehydration so that’s my worry. We just gotta be careful.

I can’t make sense of the differing opinions between surgeons- maybe if an individual had a particular condition there have to be exceptions. I just want my coffee! 😉

I asked my doc about this (the wide ranging post op requirements for not only caffeine but all foods) and he said in most cases the super conservative doctors either don’t like to deal with complaining patients or had a malpractice suit so they just give out the safest umbrella instructions to minimize the calls from people freaking out because they overdid it and are in pain (“but you said I could have carrots!!”). It also protects them legally if their instructions aren’t followed. I was told to try whatever I wanted after 6 weeks (maybe four I can’t remember now) and it would either agree with me or not.

My doc said caffeine was even okay like one cup at two week post op. Assuming you aren’t having problems getting your fluids in cause that’s why they say not to drink it is it’s a diuretic.

I caved (need to poop) and drank regular black coffee (with my famotadine) and just increased my Water to 70+ ounces that day to compensate for the diuretic effect of coffee. I’m 7 months post op with no issues. I drink 1.5 cups of black coffee a day.

I was allowed Decaf immediately before n after and was cleared to regular at first post op appointment. I love my coffee

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
