Hello I just wanted to know how much weight was lost within the first 1-3 months for you? Do you see a big difference?

I am about 2 weeks shy of 3 months (surgery date 10/14. My starting weight was 222, I weigh 190 now. I went down 2.5 sizes. Yes I see a big difference. Can't wait for an even bigger difference. I struggle most days because I feel it should be coming off faster but it's better than nothing so I'll take it.

Everybody's weight loss is different because we're different sizes, ages, genders and each body is different. So try not to compare yourself too much to others on here because it can be discouraging if you aren't benchmarking what they're doing. That being said, I think I lost 30 pounds in the first 3 months and yes I had to buy new (used) clothes and I felt so much better.

I lost 45 pounds in the first 3 months. I lost about 70 pounds before surgery, so at that point, I was 115 pounds down from my highest weight. It was right around that time that people started to notice. For the first 100 pounds, not a single person at work commented, but once I hit 110 pounds down, I was getting comments about it left and right (a big part if it was probably that this was the point that I couldn’t wear my old pants anymore, so I had to buy smaller pants that fit better).

That said, @GradyCat is 100% right that you should not compare yourself to anyone else. Everyone loses weight differently due to many factors, most of which are beyond our control. The biggest factor of all is your starting weight. You haven’t entered that in your profile, so I don’t know how much you have to lose, but there are people who started 100 pounds lower than I did. Someone with a starting BMI of 35 is going to lose more slowly than someone with a starting BMI of 60. How long it takes to see a visible difference depends on your body shape and weight distribution, and you can’t control where the weight comes off first. For me, my belly wants to hold onto that fat, so my legs, hips, shoulders, and chest are smaller, but I still have a big, flabby belly.

That is amazing ! You stared off with a low weight anyway so it may take longer to get to your goal but I’m sure it feels good to be out of the 200’s!

You’re so right about that! And 30lbs is a great loss!

2 weeks before surgery, my BMI was 43.2, on my 3-month surgery anniversary, it went down to 31.6

At that point only a few people noticed any difference...*I* noticed a HUGE diff though, lol!! My waist had gone down 9.5 inches by then...i was actually quite baffled with how most people didnt notice!! 😂 (Or at least didn’t say anything out loud to me...though the comments and questions started with a vengeance around the 4-5 month post op mark....it got really annoying)

By day 60 post op, I had lost 54 pounds, which includes 15 pounds lost on the pre op diet. BUT EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT! It doesn't matter if you lose fast or slow. You cannot control that as long as you are following your plan. I lost fast, but had terrible body dysmorphia from the rapid change. I think losing slower has advantages in that area. But we really don't have a choice in how we lose - just the choice to stick with the plan. Hang in there! Don't get caught up in comparing your numbers with everyone else. It is interesting, but the journey is unique for each person.

I'm about 7 weeks out and have lost 31lbs. As all have said, everyone is different but I do look to this forum and am motivated by posted results. It's easy to question whether a WLS will work but it's inspiring to see other's progress as well as watch your own!

Best of Luck!

2.5 months out I was down a total 75 (including pre-and post surgery) and no one had said anything. At 3 months we moved to work from home due to Covid, which meant video calls. As a result, no one really noticed until about 8 or 9 months out when my face really started to thin out. The few people I see in person notice, but it wasn't until I bought some new clothes that fit that it was obvious how much I've lost...

I had always problems with my weight and now I'm thinking about a really strict diet or even about a weight-loss operation. Can anyone advise me on what to choose?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
