My biggest fear is it won't work...

Recommended Posts

I know it's completely unreasonable to feel this way. I'm booked for surgery 4 January, my pre op diet starts in two days. I've done my homework, planned the first 6 weeks based on my dieticians advice.

Does anyone else have these fears? Or had these fears and now are post surgery?

I think I need to keep myself busy, or at least my mind busy. It's stinking hot here in Queensland Australia, and I've got lots of things I can do to keep me occupied.....

I was afraid my surgery would not be effective for me. But it turned out that it worked for me just like it did for others! Almost 2 years and 120 pounds lost later, I am now moving into maintenance and planning for how I will avoid significant regain. It'll work if you work it - by that I mean, surgery makes it easier to lose weight but you do have to build good habits as well.

Surgery is just one part. You have to be willing to put in the work and effort to change a lifetime of bad habits. For the first month or two you will probably struggle to meet goals set by your doctor or dietician to get your Protein and Water goals. But, that should be your number one task as it will give you a good foundation to build healthy habits. Exercise is also a big part. Do what you can an work at doing more. If you realize that you get out of this what you put into it, you will be on the right path. Change is a scary thing, but it can also lead to great things.

Everybody has those fears. It's only natural. We've all tried and failed at multiple diets so we're expecting this to fail as well. Have faith and good luck with your WLS journey.

My surgery is Jan. 4th also. I’m here in Florida. My pre diet starts also in 2 days and thinking if I can do the pre op diet before Christmas, I can do what is necessary after surgery. But, I am very nervous even about the pre op diet. I think I’ll skip Christmas this year.

I absolutely agree surgery is only one part of it. A big part in helping me create good habits. My doctor looked at my food diary and was pretty clear that what I consumed was great.... just in too big a volumes.

Tomorrow I start the pre op diet. I am very much ready for this journey.

I think everyone has experienced that feeling, but I'm sure it will work

I am on day 2 of my pre op liquid diet and know that once I'm past the three day mark I will be fine. I'll have developed confidence in my mind and will be sure that it works.

Silly me, I know....

I'm 3 weeks out and I still have that fear. After years of failed diets it's only natural to feel skeptical. I have lost 25lbs since surgery and while that is amazing, I am still doubting myself lol. I'm looking forward to getting back to exercising like I did before surgery. This has been 100% a complete and utter life change. I view my body and food in a completely different light. I know the weightloss will get harder as time goes on but I'm ready for it and enjoying this honeymoon period of easy loss now. Good luck with your surgery! You got this!!

7 weeks out and doing great, but I still fear the worst. I expect it all to stop. Lol. I will continue to do what they tell me. When I'm down 100, hopefully I'll believe. Lol

I had my procedure yesterday and feel so washed out. Not hungry at all. Determined to make this work.

Good. No turning back now. Stay focused, and most importantly, recovery is temporary. You'll feel normal soon!!!

Absolutely. Its just going on night time on Wednesday and my procedure was Monday afternoon. I have had two pretty rough days and nights, but feel a million times better this afternoon. Ive managed a full Optifast shake and about a litre of Powerade zero. I'm still peeing so must be working haha. I actually had a mildly warm coffee this afternoon too, it took an hour to drink it. Small sips are certainly the way!

4kgs down already. I know it's probably Water weight but I will take what I can get!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
