Day 1 pre op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

At the end of my first day on the pre op liquid diet and sheesh, i was ok until after work. I’m doing my Protein Shakes and broth and had Tomato Soup for dinner but dammnit I’m just hungry. So of course I’m going through the “did I make a mistake?” am I just hangry?” How did you get through it? I know I just need to keep my head down and focus, but tonight was hard, really hard.

It is extremely hard. Try eating some crushed ice. Good luck!

Are you allowed to have Jello? And I know it's a little cold, but what about sugar free popsicles? Good luck!

It’s hard! I am on day 4 and it is getting easier. I am hangry. I’ve just been trying to keep myself busy! I second a suggestion for Jello. I can have sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles! They help break up the day and give me something to “chew” on.

Tomato Soup is a probably a lot of natural sugars and carbs, which would likely cause a blood sugar dip unless there is some balance with Protein. At this point each meal probably should have some protein to help keep you satisfied and balance out the blood sugars.

The pre-op diet is the hardest part of this whole process, but it's so worth it to get the liver tiny and prepped for surgery. The weight loss you experience during this phase is an added bonus!

Good luck!!!!

yep - the pre-op diet is tough - like ChubRub said, the hardest part of the whole process. It does seem to get a lot easier by day 3 or 4 when your body goes into ketosis.

I ate sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles with abandon (as in - a whole box of Jello a day!). I was also allowed a limited amount of Tomato juice/V8 and broth (I think it might have been up to a cup a day), and I did that every day, too, since I'm salt sensitive and retain Water like crazy - the water retention made me feel fuller.

but yea - it's tough. You mostly just have to white knuckle it. A lot of us can relate to what you're going through...

As everyone said, the pre-op diet is the hardest part of the process. I slipped up during mine and ate a sugar-free pudding, which wasn't on-plan. Later in the 10 days, I added a little heavy cream to my shakes (which was allowed) and the extra fat helped me a lot. If you're not lactose-intolerant you can try that.

When I my body goes into ketosis, like during the liquid pre-op diet, I found I needed a lot of salt. I drank salty broth a few times per day. It does get better around day 3-4.

The pre-op diet sucks, but it is a short step towards getting healthy for the rest of your life. 😊

Oh everyone is so sweet, thank you--just reading that I am not the only one helps tremendously. You are all wonderful--day 2 is going a little better---I am still waiting on my Unjury delivery (which is the Protein Shake I like the best) and for now I'm slogging through Muscle Milk and eating Jello like it's going out of style. I know the end game is so much better than this moment and I am just trying to keep my eye on the prize!! Cream of chicken with mixed 1/% milk is my dinner plan tonight--broth and broth for days! I like the crushed ice idea!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
