I’m equally scared of the other way. When I was on liquids only for 2 wks I had only 2 BM’s. Upside was after them my weigh-ins felt accomplished 😂

I'm struggling with my BM's as well. My nurse says I should be going every three days.

Hi Latanya,

What was your surgery type and when did you have it?

Every 3 days? Are you going more or less? Today alone I’ve gone 3 times and they’ve been crampy and uncomfortable.

I hope your body acclimates soon too. I'm surprised you're dumping at the puree stage even with following it exactly. I haven't dumped yet. I hope I never do. Would you say its like having the flu?

I hope it gets better too. It’s after midnight and I’ve had 5 incidents today. Something is wrong. Either meds or maybe my shakes or something. Purées is supposed to be easy and allow the body to heal.

it is a little like the flu. I get sweaty on my forehead, I can hear and feel stomach gurgles, sometimes gas but not always and then full body chills. The entire experience is like a roller coaster for my senses. It leaves me drained and weak.
I took at anti diarrheal finally and messaged my team. I can’t do this much longer. Day 9 or 10 straight. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Lactose intolerance? A lot of people develop it for a period of time after surgery, for some it doesn't go away

Oh! I hope that’s not it. I get a lot of my Protein from cottage cheese and Premier Protein shakes. That would be super unfortunate 😩 .

I agree with the above commenter. It could be lactose intolerance - or maybe a reaction to an artificial sweetener in the shakes. Some people get G/I distress from certain artificial sweeteners. Unless you're eating a lot of regular sugar or fats, it's likely not true dumping.

I’m not eating hardly anything the last 2-3 days. Chili w/beans, deli turkey, cottage cheese, shakes. My calciums, multi V, and omeprazole and ursodiol.

I always weigh and I always log my food.

Just woke up to more cramps and diarrhea. Anyone else take Imodium AD with zero results?

Anyone dump? What does it feel like? Have people been able to have some sweets without dumping. Just want to see if I can ever have a cookie or something like that again.

Good Morning,

Dumping can come from many different angles but the body feelings you experience (speaking for myself because everyone is different)- I get the shakes, then I sweat and then I am on the toilet for more than 2 times in less than an hour just letting it out. I get mad at myself for .5 seconds because I should have known better and then I make a cup of green tea with some mint leaves and it helps me alot.

I hope that my description helps you assess what dumping feels like.

Missy

Hello. I am new here. 17 years post-op RNY.

I dump. There are two types of dumping, 'early stage' and 'late stage':

Early Stage I don't remember the effects because I don't do this much. For me, it only involves brow sweating, usually soon enough to cue me to stop eating. For me, not a big deal. Sorry, my memory isn't what it used to be.

Late Stage (for me) takes about an hour to start. I get lethargic, light headed, sleepy, and whole body flop sweaty. Then intestinal distress, then diarrhea. Recently, one of my meds also caused me to pass out and made every effect worse. All in all an exciting time I could and strive to live without.

After all this time I generally know my body's limits and go months and years between episodes. When it get's me is when I feel under the weather or haven't eaten well for days and I don't notice and adjust.

Hope this helps,

Tek

I hope your meds got sorted Tek! That’s scary. Thanks for sharing your long term experience with us. Definitely a new view for me.

It was a one off situation. I was apparently sick, not eating much, so when I drank an overly sweet drink with my meds (that make me thirsty) everything just clobbered me.

As you likely know personally, we still learn new and exciting things to avoid. ;)

Chili w/beans

This may or may not be applicable your case, but just a thought: if u are using kidney Beans in your chilli, improperly cooked kidney beans are known to cause nausea/stomach aches/vomiting a couple hours after ingesting....the culprit is some sort of toxin or other that is only destroyed after proper cooking....

After dumping a few times, I sometimes use it as a tool when constipated. I overload on the dumping foodstuff and am cleaned out shortly. Works most of the time. Not highly recommended as the consequences can be very funky

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
