weight gain directly after surger

Recommended Posts

so, i had m surgery on July 14, and first time i have weighed myself since surgery (same scale) I am up 5 pounds. Since i am tracking my intake and know that i am consuming about 600 calories, i ask....is this normal? Am i just holding surgical/anesthesia/fluid? So odd.

It's normal for a lot...iv fluids, gas and inflammation.

Drink your fluids, do some walking (for the gas), it would be long before the extra weight has gone.

I weighed myself when I went to bed after being discharged and was up 3 pounds. It dropped right off within another couple of days as all of the fluids that I'd been pumped full of via IV worked through my body. Visiting nurse said between that and edema from inflammation, it is very common to see a momentary weight gain right after surgery.

Normal. I came out of the hospital a whole 10 pounds heavier than when I went in. It’s scientifically impossible to gain fat on 600 calories a day, don’t stress.

yep - IV Fluid. Give it a few days - it'll work its way out of your system, and then you'll be on your way!

Yep, same thing exactly happened to me, went in at 290 after losing 22 on the pre-op diet. Discharged at 297. I had a real hard time getting Water in to start with at home, so once I started peeing a lot I knew it was the edema and swelling releasing the IV fluids that had accumulated.

Definitely normal. I gained over 10 lbs right after surgery. I had never been over 200 lbs in my life and planned to NEVER hit the 200 lbs mark but I was 203 lbs for a few days after surgery. and I panicked.

It is just all the air they pump in you and the IV fluids.. only lasts for like 3-5 days and it will vanish. Don't worry!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
