MAY-JUNE-JULY 2020 BYPASSERS UNITE!! Veterans Welcome too!

  • Popular Post

Hi Gang! I'm Meow. I was scheduled for a 100cm Bypass on June 29th and they just moved me UP to June 9th! AHHHHHHH! I'm usually pretty grounded with life's hurdles but all the sudden my mind went blank and I thought "I'M NOT READY!" Any other May, June, July Bypassers want to join up and share and support? I'm not sure how to put my stats in my profile but I am 5' 5" female. Late 40s. 220# at the Doc yesterday. Goal weight is 150. Having BYPASS instead of Sleeve due to life-long reflux. Told I only need to do 3 days liquid liver shrink beforehand since my BMI is only 36. Feel both overloaded with info and under-prepared to say goodbye to the contrasting albatross/joy that is FOOD in my life. Both glad and nervous about the timing as it feels like an easier time to stay away from friends and family who social-eat until I get a handle on my new digestive system. But also I'm pretty bored as my line of work is largely halted until the conditions are far safer. Likely won't have regular work until 2021. I'm ashamed to say the last 2 months have been more of a food funeral than I anticipated so I have a lot of mind-prep to do in the next 2 weeks. I am keeping this a private journey. Only my husband and best friend know. Even keeping my tween daughter in the dark at least for now. Would love some buddies who check in frequently to go thru this with. I've been posting on other June thread but thought a BYPASS thread would be great. And of course Veterans are WELCOME to pop in and share. Share your stories with me! Let's do this together!!

Hey meow! I decided on bypass just because I felt it would be more beneficial to me. I was also nervous about having some issues later on down the road with the sleeve and didn’t want to have to have

When I googled what a Q ball is this is what came up and I don’t believe that this is what you all are talking about. (Q-ball refers to a combination of quetiapine and cocaine, or sometimes heroin)Please explain someone.

I found this

Lol it’s an On-Q ball. Myon-Q.com. It’s attached to a catheter to your stomach and helps with nerve pain.

Lol. Thank you For the clarity. I was picturing this roller ball with anesthetic cream or something. It’s a catheter delivering pain med directly as needed! Got it ha!

Ugh... it’s day 5 and I’m starting to get hungry. Getting water in fine, protein down. But another 9 days of basically 300 calories not including exercise is crushing.

They have kept you to 300 calories day post op? Mine had told me to not worry about calories for a month, during the biggest part of the healing. I would agree that would be very hard. ?

They don’t have us tracking but that’s basically the math. 50-60g protein a day, liquids only. That’s 2 shakes, 320 cal total.

Okay pre ops completed today. I have a COVID test on Friday and surgery on Monday. I pray I can get in with my surgery before Texas stops alternative surgeries. We are having a lot of new COVID cases and I am on Cobra insurance benefits right now to get this done. Ah well. All I can do is hope for the best.

From my research that is the bare minimum, it is so low that I can’t imagine how someone would function day to day!

I think this is why I feel like total **** a week after surgery.

Given the weight you show lost (if that is post surgery), you must be eating very little ? I show 300-600 is the range for most (but I have had no 300 calorie days). Supposedly the sensations we are having are not hunger, but it feels awfully close at times.

I’m with you on being nervous about surgery getting canceled due to COVID. I’m scheduled for Thursday. What part of Texas are you from? I’m in Ballinger.

Yeah, not eating much at all. I lost the first 10 pounds on my 2-week pre-op diet, and the last 10 pounds in just the week since my surgery. It does not feel good. Fast weight loss is the goal, but I feel like I'm dying.

My post-op diet is 2 weeks of full liquid. I'm supposed to aim for 48-64 ounces of water a day, and 70g of protein. I'm lucky if I can get halfway on the protein. I wish I could eat cottage cheese, or scrambled eggs, or SOMETHING, but it's liquids only. So I basically make a protein shake in the morning and drink half of it for breakfast, and the other half for lunch. I supplement with jello or sometimes a sugar-free popsicle as snacks. I also drink water with Nectar protein powder in it, as much as I can stand. For dinner I have broth or miso soup.

I just checked my log and I've had 260 calories today, 34 grams of protein, and about 40 oz of water. I could not eat another thing, I'm not hungry. And I'm not dehydrated yet. However, I'm exhausted, and feel light-headed and awful if I try to do more than walk to the mailbox and back. I guess theoretically I should try to force myself to sip on a protein shake during the day, but I can barely get down the one I drink now.

I have a follow-up appointment tomorrow and I'll surely be discussing this with them. I also ordered some high-protein soup mixes to try. It just sucks when you're stuck on liquids only. I mean there's only so many things you can consume.

No kidding? I'm in Sugar Land, too. Planning to have the surgery in the Med Center, though. Patrick Reardon was recommended as the surgeon. My schedule is on hold, unfortunately. It's a long story. LOL.
