Hi everyone so great to hear how everyone is doing and celebrate successes
I’m 8 weeks out today, just shy of 23lbs down since surgery and am back in onederland. I had thought I would have lost more but am ultimately happy with the progress. I had read a few studies saying that by 4 months most folks have lost 1/2 of what they are ultimately going to lose so I’m trying to refocus to have the next 8 weeks just as or more successful.
I was progressed to solid foods today - though I admit I’ve been eating some solids prior to today. I’m always surprised by what I can eat and how much - surprised and freaked out sometimes. Chicken breast comes right back up, but tacos? Totally fine. Anything that has a slider attached to it... salsa, soft cheese, sauce, etc... well, slides. I eat about 800-900 cals a day, 80-110g protein, 70+ oz water and walk between 3-5 miles a day. I am not one of the lucky who lost all hunger- I get hungry, and 2oz of food 3x a day doesn’t cut it. I usually eat 3-4.
I had a bad week when my family came to visit where I snacked - that sucked. So I need to do more work on my head space.

@Repeatingthoughts you might want to try making some unsweetened lattes- they basically save me. I used to tolerate premier protein but now it’s too sweet. So instead, I brew decaf coffee and use 3/4-1 cup Fairlife fat free milk with 1.5 scoops of gene-pro protein. That’s at least 29-32g of protein per latter with no sugar.

I’m in the same boat. Only lost 10 lbs in the first 3 weeks and had a very strict protocol. 2 weeks of clear, 1 week full liquids and then mushies - only 2 ounces at a time and walking 2miles a day. Even my surgeon was surprised. I started walking 3 miles a day and said I wouldn’t weight myself for another 3 weeks because I know what Head games that does to me. I spend 3 days “cheating” with an .5- 1 oz of pirate booty because I felt like 2 ounces of food was nothing. Like what’s the point, it’s over in a few minutes or a few bites, and family dinners were / are hard. So I ate the pirate booty because it felt like a lot of chewing but didn’t have a problem going down. Even tried a few potato chips, which were waaaay to easy to go down. Then I freaked out because I could feel my bad habits coming back and I kept hearing the saying “those who find a way to cheat the bypass are the ones who fail”. So then I threw the both bags away. The head game is real.

@MaybeMeow this! So much this. My surgery got moved up a week and is supposed to be 6/19. I am so nervous. I started this process in January. I was gung-ho on getting healthy, started orange theory and thought I’d lose a bunch of weight before the surgery so that I’d have an easier time. Then my back issues started coming back... and then lockdown from covid and anxiety hit the roof. Instead of losing weight, I’ve gained 15lbs waiting for the surgery. I thought I had 4 more weeks to get back on track but it looks like I’m starting the liquid diet on Friday. I’m 5’2”, 230 lbs now. I thought I’d have more time. Food funerals have been frequent and I’ve been eating more - a ton more even for me. I’ve also kept this process to myself with just my spouse in the know.
And I can’t believe I just wrote that.

Have you tried hot chicken broth? Helps me a ton.
  9. Wow!
Curious - does anyone have an apathetic spouse? Mine has done zero research, zero attempts to understand what's going on or how things will change, nothing. Today his question was "listen before your surgery, I want to sit down and go over things so I don't I have to worry about them" and then he went on to explain he was thinking about getting a new car and a new roof.
I cannot tell you how heartbreaking that was to me. Is anyone else going it alone? What are you doing to get through?

Woo-Hoo on getting things lined up today!?I remember how excited and deeply committed the day I did that. So proud of you for recalling your inner voice coming through to the therapist that this was clearly something you had to do on your own. It shows the conviction you do indeed feel, not just hearing our words. It’s kind of deliciously selfish to be self absorbed in this journey! This Baripal community has been the BEST support, sounding board, information, that I could have hoped for. SO glad you’re here!? When moments get tough, log in, judgment free zone and YOU will be here for other’s, too. I am Smiling for YOU right now!?

My heart hurts that you’re hurting...I can envision it completely. My issue was the opposite?, and that’s not good either! For instance, handsome hubs wanted me to watch the procedure on youtube! He found it very interesting and many questions and concerns that shouldn’t have been, took on a life. He was the only spouse in the room asking surgeon questions until I had to ask him to pleeez, not ask questions on the mechanics of RNY.?.
SO, I always go back to this WLS experience presented many, many opportunities for growth that i did not expect. With his science obsession on it, my growth lesson was to DETACH from his concerns and viewpoints and realize this was MY JOURNEY. I was not expecting him to make it worthy, valuable, etc., nor did I need his approval.

You’re growing stronger! As long as he supports you in assisting in the after care you will need, go deep inside and be your own best friend and all that you need to do this— for no one but you can do the work ahead. Let the pain drift up and away, and Smile as it floats up, out of your orbit!???

Oof. This is hard to respond to. Let me say this... a new you means a NEW YOU. It might be complicated for him... I guess I should say for your partner doesn't matter, male or female... might be complicated for them to wrap their head around how you will be changing and how that might affect your relationship. So perhaps they need some grace and time. Maybe they'll step up. Particularly if you are patient.

AAANNNND... I started with that because I'm a big believer in not wasting your time with someone who doesn't consider themselves to be your biggest advocate. New you means better you. Get thru this surgery and get healthy and then maybe it's time to look at some other parts of your life. Could need an overhaul.
