Coughing after eating

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Does anyone experience a bit of coughing after eating? I’m thinking it might be the pressure from my new pouch? I had VSG surgery on 12/2/19, so almost four weeks post-op. Thanks!

I had Vsg back in March 2018. I got a dry cough afterwards. Didn’t pay much attention to it until I had a very bad reflux episode. I then found out that cough was actually food particles coming up into my esophagus. Very common with gerd.

Not that this is what you are experiencing but it may be worth mentioning to your dr if it persists.

the best way I can describe the cough is that it felt like I had breathed something in and my lungs were trying to expel it.

Interesting - I’ve never had any acid reflux or gerd before. It is a dry cough that happens even if I drink a Protein Shake. I will bring it up to my doctors at my next appointment. Thanks for input!

Stop eating when you are no longer hungry, and not full. If you are eating slowly enough you will reach a point where you aren't hungry, stop. You don't need to be eating 3 oz of Protein. I got most of my protein from drinks at 4 weeks and only had cottage cheese for my "food". I was very cautious when adding food. Good luck. I get hiccups if I eat too much.

If you are coughing, it might be that you ate too much. If I take one bite too many, I will often hiccup or burp. And if I eat too much I start coughing. Try to stop eating before you think you are full and see if it improves.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
