A Tale of Two Arm Lifts (rs & ms.sss)

  • Popular Post

Found out last month that both @rs and I had Arm Lifts scheduled for the same week, just two days apart. @rs got the deed done yesterday, and I'm heading in for it tomorrow morning. We thought it would be fun/interesting/just-something-to-do to start a thread where we both could post to document our progress for a one-stop view of two different experiences of the same procedure.

So here we go!

  • All done and drugged up. Cant stay awake for longer than 15 minutes mins. Cant stay asleep for longer than 10 mins. Weird. Surprisingly feeling well-rested despite the weird sleep

  • My stats: 5 ft 6.5 in. Sleeved Aug 2018. In maintenance about 4 months, at ~145 lbs. Had an extended arm lift (brachioplasty) yesterday 12/16. Incision is from elbow through the arm pit

  • All packed: button front top, joggers, zippered hoodie, underwear, sports bra, socks, crocs, toiletries, lip balm, gum, biotene throat spray, laptop, chargers, headphones, electrical power bar, huggin

Update: Since putting on the scar tape, a lot of the achiness & soreness in my armpits & boobs had lessened significantly. However, last night both my boobs started aching in the underboob areas.

So...Mr. suggested I get some compression going across my chest. Since my sports bras are just not tight enough, I fashioned a vest with some ace bandages.

OMG my under-boob pain went from like a 6 to a 3 almost immediately. AND for some reason, I have ZERO armpit soreness now (dont know if its related or just a coincidence)

I heart compression.

Here is my new look (arm garment + sports bra + ace bandages + abdominal binder). I'm calling it mummy-chic.

Now I want to get some leg compression socks...

BREAKING NEWS:

I wore my pre-op jeans yesterday for like 8 hours AND I didn't feel like I was going to bust open the buttons!

Also, I measured my waist this morning, and it is back to my pre-op measurement!! If you remember, I had swelled to +5.5" in that area, yikes.

...I continue, however, to be on lower-belly and upper-thigh watch for any signs swell decrease. Le sigh.

Tomorrow will be 6 weeks since I had my trinity of PS procedures, and I'm heading in for a follow up appointment with my surgeon. Took a picture tonite in rare moment with all my garments and sliicone tape off and put this side-by-side comparison together.

I'm pretty pleased with the results so far :)

Interesting your arms are still tight. Might are completely fine now. I've had no suture issues at all ever since I started wearing the silicone tape. I keep mine on 24/7. Replace it about once a week. I just can't get over how amazing you look. And it's good to read that you acknowledge it too and appreciate the new you. Xo

Thanks ❤️

I did get a little bit of worry planted in me since the appt with my doc. HIs "concern" about my inability to fully extend my arms got me all thinking and now I'm obsessed with stretching them out. I feel like a kid who is behind in class!

Funny analogy [emoji4], but I'm sure you're fine. Might want to be careful not to overdo the stretching though so it doesn't create some other issue. I totally get the overthinking and obsessing. I do the same thing. In fact I was so distraught at work for several days last week because of something my manager said. I wanted to talk to her about it the next day but she was out of the office, for several days. When she returned I practically ambushed her immediately to talk about it. Of course I had read too much into her initial comment, and things were fine.

So I haven't worn my abdominal binder in 3 days cuz all 3 of my binders were in the wash and I have been on a super lazy streak and hadn't folded and put away the clean laundry in the basket in those 3 days.

I noticed this morning that the swelling on my lower abdomen had reduced significantly.

HOWEVER.

My waistline has INCREASED signifiantly!!! It is back up to +3" from pre-op. WTF?

I guess the swelling moved from my lower abdomen upwards and across???

I'm not sure what I hate more, 3 month preggo look, or thick waistline. Le Sigh.

Arg...so I put the binder back on anyway since I got my lazy a$$ of the couch and finally put the laundry away.

I am really so over this recovery phase.
