Anyone have GERD and get the sleeve and it improved? I am really hesitant to get the bypass because it is more invasive but want my gerd to get better not worse.

That's going to be super individualized and no one can predict what it will be like until after.(But I personally don't dump often because I'm careful- sidenote I was revised from VSG to RNY for GERD)

Ask about the statistics on GERD remission/recurrence after VSG from your Surgeon or research it yourself

But really It will all come down to what the surgeon (and you) determine is the best course of action

Good Luck 💙

The dumping-I did early on from flavored medicine that had sugar in the flavoring. I was super strict for 6 months but now I am at my goal weight and I have had a cookie, a bite of ice cream, a piece of bread (one of those not all of them maybe once a week, not everyday) and have not dumped. I have not had a large serving and if I get too many carbs or eat to fast I feel blah but don’t get sick. It’s different for everyone.

I'm trying to determine what procedure is best for me. I'm having my surgery on 1/31/20, I only want to do this once. I have dealt with heartburn issues here and there, but not frequently or long term. I'm praying for guidance and clarity to make the proper decision.

Go for the gastric, wish I would have gotten that one instead of the sleeve..I never had problems with heartburn until I got the sleeve done..but I'm still happy

I had bypass because I had GERD and my surgeon wouldn't do tge sleeve. No GERD now. 8 months post bypass and have never dumped, but I am very strict with my sugar intake. I'm not sick all the time either. If you even have mild GERD the sleeve has the potential to make it worse. Good luck whichever you choose.

Seriously 89% in on the rny procedure, sent my surgeon an email this evening to explain my point of view and to express my concerns.

I have moderate acid reflux and was initially scheduled for a sleeve. I talked to my surgeon and he decided that a MBP was better for me. I'm concerned about bile reflux with the MBP, but a RNY doesn't have a reflux issue of any kind. If I were you, I would not get a sleeve and go for the RNY....just my opinion though.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
