Tell me your best vitamin tips with gastric bypass

Recommended Posts

Yes I’m taking 5-6 different Vitamins, I decided to not take b complex right now. I am on a very tight disability budget, I shop where I can get lower prices and extra savings both coupons and rebates through a site called Rakuten. But I do my best to budget in important things. I take gummy vitamins so what, we aren’t supposed to take tablets for the first few months post op. I talked to my nutritionist she said as long as there isn’t more than 4 grams of sugar in it it’s fine. They are easier to chew and I couldn’t find bariatric vitamins without added iodine. Things like Centrum just go right through you. I just looked for more food based vitamins in a chewable form.

Vitamins are very important after gastric bypass surgery. A single Multivitamin especially just a basic one that isn’t food based or bio available won’t do much. Also your vitamins are adapted based on bloodwork and your own personal needs.

if people want to rake me over the coals for what vitamins I take or what kind. Or if it looks expensive When All I did was answer a question. Then I guess I won’t comment anymore. If I could go back and remove my comments then I would.

Who raked you over the coals? I think Mikey was raking me over the coals. LOL. I think you're doing great!

@FluffyChix a few people responded to my post about the amount of Vitamins, cost and that they are gummy vitamins. I was better of not saying anything let alone getting involved in this site. Did I use the wrong words? I don’t know. It doesn’t matter. I’m sorry I said anything.

Blow 'em off hon. Let it roll off your back. You need to be here and you are just as important as any of us.

Remember...if you suspect people don't like or get you...

I take ProCare Health bariatric Multivitamins with Iron. It contains everything recommended by ASMBS except Calcium. So i supplement with Celebrate calcium citrate chews.

That's what I have been taking too. It was recommended by the MD and Nut. since it's only 1x day. I just looked at the chart listed above in this thread and a few that are in ProCare are lower. One is Thiamin is only 3mg and the chart says 20, same with Riboflavin, folic acid and selenium. You have a sleeve so maybe it doesn't matter as much.

It makes me think about using 2 different brands to make sure I am getting everything. I guess I need to go online and compare some details.

Well my Bariatric Program at The O.S.U.- WEXNER Medical Center in Columbus has had me on Prenatal Vitamins from the Get Go. Had to switch from Spring Valley to Natures Bounty" Healthy Mom "variety because of insufficient Vitamin A, I now have to have 1000 mg as well as a 10000 mg liquigel perle once a day. Already taking 1 '323mg Ferrocite. for. Iron deficiency/ anemia. My Way of swallowing meds- Take sip of fluid- hold on mouth- throw/toss pills in- let them float down as I swallow- VICTORY! Absolutely LOATHED grinding meds- once I could go back to regular, I practically trampled people in my way! I may have dentures but I find NO ENJOYMENT in grinding and chewing Bariatric vitamins- still have a bottle of Bari- Melts but only use them when I have misplaced the others and I get cranky/ crabby if That Occurs.

And P.S. I too got permission for gummies as long as they are fruit juice based instead of corn syrup/ sugar ones. My dietician, since my daily calorie count is abysmal, said it's okay for me.

So I'm reading the thread and got curious about the ProCare health bariatric multivitamins. I've never heard about it before but if im not mistaken i could swear i saw it in my nut office few months back. So if you don't mind me asking you only take both Vitamins once a day correct?

That's right, only two. Makes it pretty easy.

So that’s weird. I looked online for the amounts and made my previous post. Today I looked at my bottle and it’s the same as yours with the higher amounts. I wonder if the online list is old. I guess I will stick with it then.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
