Worried About Post Surgery Complications

Recommended Posts

Hello!

My name is Grant. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 11/13/2017. At that time, I weighed about 450 pounds. Since my surgery, I've mostly followed the program, changed my lifestyle and worked out. I've met with my personal trainer at least twice a week since 01/2018 and made it a point to go to the gym at least 3 times a week separate from that.

About 6 months after my surgery, I switched to an insurance my surgeon didn't accept. So I haven't seen him since then.

As of today, I weight 217 pounds, meaning i've lost somewhere around 233 pounds. It's absolutely changed my life and I am a totally different person now. But i'm concerned because...well...I'm still throwing up...like a lot. At least 5 times a week, sometimes without even eating. I can't keep like most meals down.

I've gone from having my first ever cavity 18 months ago to having 16 + cavities. It's gotten to the point that I don't even attempt to swallow most foods when i'm hungry or trying to eat, i Just spit them up once I get a taste.

I'm honestly not trying to do like a humble brag...I'm honestly concerned.

I don't know why I'm still vomiting and gagging and such this far after my surgery.

You need to find a surgeon that accepts your insurance immediately and have all of your documentation transferred to the new surgeon, please do that ASAP friend. Living like that is not okay. Keep us updated.

Please find a surgeon or gastroenterologist immediately that will accept your insurance and transfer your records over.

An urgent care, ER, or Primary visit until then would be prudent. They can help by setting up or performing an endoscopy to see if there is a structural issue.

Good Luck 💜

First, congratulations on your hard work and weight loss. Second, I'm worried about you. It sounds like an eating disorder or some type of problem. Please follow up with somebody, even if it's a primary care physician, to tell them about your issues.

If your insurance won't get you to see a surgeon then I'd say go to your primary care physician ASAP. If you can't keep ANYTHING at all down then probably go to the emergency room.

This does sound very worrying.

You could have a stricture, erosions, gastritis, hiatal hernia, or some other structural issue. Any good gastroenterologist would be able to scope you to figure out what is happening down there. Please get seen right away. The cavities indicate a lot of acid washing around. If it's wreaking your teeth, it is also ripping up your esophagus.

Grant , this doesn’t sound right at all. I’m worried for you that you haven’t seen a surgeon.I can only repeat what others have said to you .Youve obviously put a lot of effort into this , and don’t want to cause more problems for yourself . It must be horrible to keep throwing up all the time . I hope by now you’ve seen someone and that you’re getting the right care . Please let us know how you go on . Good luck

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
